This is our "babyboy", Chester. He was a gift last spring from one of my sisters litters. Just a year old Thanksgiving. He is no larger now than he was then. Main problem is he weighs only 11 pounds and all of his bones are prominent. He has very good care at the vets and was neutered soon after we got him. In Sept. discovered through lab tests that he had a parasite that is not common and was given meds for 10 days. Recent tests show him to be clear and all blood work is fine. We are feeding Natural Choice dry and occasional canned food. For treats we give small slivers of Oscar Mayer Weiners or cheddar cheese or spoon of peanut butter. He has a good appetite and eats his kibble with gusto. No problems with degestion or elimination. Full of energy and is never still. We have a pet door so he has the run of a very well kept yard. We have a 6 year old Shi-Tzu that is his companion besides his being treated mostly like a human baby.
We are at a loss about his weight. Were he a horse we would be arrested for inhumane treatment as his ribs, backbone, and haunches would show if he didn't have so much hair.
Open to any and all suggestions. We struggle to be sure, Mattie, the Shi-Tzu doesn't get too fat.
Have at least 2 dogs at a time for 48 years and never faced with this before. Help.
