What is the difference between a treated seed and an untreated seed? I was looking to order Waltham Butternut thru Johnny's Selected Seeds and they offer both.

Treated or Untreated Seeds
Treated seed have extra protection against rot (fungi) in the soil. Not usually a big advantage for a home gardener. For those planting acreage it can mean a difference between profit and loss. Reseeding a field is expensive.
