Today In The Yard

Marlton, NJ

I have quite a few photo's so thought it best to make my own thread instead of clogging up the Daily Pics thread.

I was inside the house this morning when I spotted a Sharp-shinned Hawk sitting on the arbor. It was very overcast outside and still being in my pj's I took the pics through the window.

The only shot I was able to get of the Tufted Titmouse geting a large tree nut.

I came back inside after I could no longer stand the cold and it had also gotten overcast out again.

A while later I glanced out back just in time to see a Coopers Hawk swooping through the yard and land on the arbor right where the Sharp-shinned had been earlier.
Taken through the window.

Thank you snug! I was just happy to be able to get outside if even for a short time.

Great pics Pelle...that Hawk is just beautiful. The pic of him with the squirrel is too funny!

Pelle, isn't it amazing to think you took all these wonderful shots in your own backyard. You seem to get more than your fair share of hawks. I guess when you consider how hawks hunt, that squirrel is probably the safest he could ever be. The hawk isn't going to hop along the arbor to nab him.

Thanks Rose and Margaret. Yes we do get alot of hawks in the winter time. :-)

As usual they are all great pelle...but the hawks are so beautiful.

Thanks nanny!

Wow, beautiful pictures. And you get lots of hawks. I get my fair share. I attended a Renaissance Festival recently and asked a falconer if there was any way to discourage the hawks from using my bird feeders as a hunting ground. She said "don't feed the birds". Oh well.

MRW31 - I get the same smart-aleck answer when I ask how to keep pigeons
away from my feeders. I finally had to jury-rig an ugly feeding station of my own
(with 3ft garden fencing & chicken wire) to have any success. The occasional
redtail or sharpshin hawk comes with the territory, tho.

pelle,

Great pics! Those squirrels didn't worry, but I'd bet they worry if a Red Tail Hawk was sitting that close!
