Here's some new Foxwood Trail babies that seem to be mutating to vatiegated leaf...at least I hope it's variegation and not a disease.
I thought there was a link in the stickies on problems with leaves but I'm not finding it.
Mutation or problem
I water w/ warm water and use a turkey basting bulb so any water that would get on the leaves would be confined to lower leaves. I do not give babies most especialy mini's reg./av fert rather I alternate between very very weak solution of fish and root stimulator then switch to av fert in a very weak solution

I don't know if this will help but at least you might come close to noing and its still early

Birthmarking was my first thought, but I don't know much about AV's ^_^ Hope someone knows the answer.
Hmmm...looks kinda like "birthmarking" but there's been no change in culture.Could it be,they were seperated and potted up not to long ago and would that constitute a culture change? I also have Moonlite Snow that looks like the "lightening" but again no neglect nor culture changes.
try feeding it some epsom salts if its yellowing,it should help green things up
JIM
What concentration would you use Jim? I am trying to make a little notebook of tips like this...Also still wondering what concentration of liquid seaweed to use for foliar feeding if anyone knows-- I know Gail does this but she is on sabbatical.
no yellowing
Ill have to go through my notes and find out,its not much though
heres what was said on my group, funwithgessies
If you're using Epsom Salts to green up variegated babies you can mix
> 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon in a gallon of water & mist the babies 2 or
> 3 times a week. You can do the same with fish emulsion, but use 1
> ounce (2 tablespoons) to a gallon of water with FE.
Ok Can you get your older AV plants greener with the Epson Salts or Houseplants
Or is it just for babies
all of them i believe
I use a plant elixr on houseplants-- it has epsom salt, ammonia, seaweed, beer, teatree oil and molasses--it works overnight-- but am afraid to try that on my av's & gessies. Thanx for the info Jim!
Thanks Jim I was going to make Bath salts with the Epson now I have another idea what to use it for
HAHAHA
No really thanks Jim

Don't ya love it with a household staple does double duty^_^
BidRed - what you are seeing is called spontaneous variegation. One time I had high hopes for an av trailer 'Pixie Blue' to have sported variegated leaves. This type of variegation isn't stable and the plant grew out of it's phase and stayed green. I tried putting down leaves that showed variegation hoping they would produce variegated plants. They didn't, the babies were all green.
Quote from here..
http://www.optimara.com/optimaraglossary/sol-sta.html
"Spontaneous Variegation: Type of variegation on the leaves of African Violets which is unstable. Spontaneous variegation either appears only briefly or is incapable of being reproduced in propagation."
I had a blue tail fly that did that,i enjoyed it but never could get it to reproduce varigated
JIM
Oh..well,Shoot! Don't it just figure. I'll enjoy it while it last.
Thanks everyone for all the info
