I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this post or not, or if there even is a right spot for this. I tried to find some other website just for tonsils but I didn't really have any luck.
I am 32 years old, and I just had my tonsils out, the Friday after Thanksgiving. I am still in enough pain that I am taking OTC pain med. The Dr prescribed me some pain med yesterday at my post op apt but after reading about the side effects I didn't fill it. It causes nausea, dizziness and fatigue in 15% of people who take it! She also gave me a steroid to help with swelling because the swelling is still really bad.
So anyway, I am feeling much better and able to swallow now without being in extreme pain. But I have questions about the anatomy of it now.
Please don't anyone laugh at me LOL
I feel like my tongue is longer. ? I am thinking maybe the tonsils 'held' my tongue back farther in my mouth and now that they are gone the tongue relaxed more and comes forward. It feels really weird and also I still can't talk plain. I noticed also a skin tag at the back of my mouth in the corner where my tongue meets my cheek.. This is very painful and food catches in it. Which leads to my next problem and this is my most disturbing yet. When I swallow, food goes up into the sides of my throat and packs there, instead of going down my throat. I had to go to the Dr yesterday and have her clean this out, it was so nasty. She said I would basically have to learn to swallow right and use my tongue again. Like it was my fault that I wasn't using it right?! Like I've swallowed for 32 years lady!!!!!
I ate a piece of cheese last night and it wedged up into the corner again and just stuck there. I tried gargling and Q-tips and everything. So how far does this hole go? Is it open clear through to my ear? When I swallow water it feels like it goes back under my ear? I hope I'm not being too confusing. My husband had his tonsils out after we were married, but he didn't have this problem. I am just curious if others have experienced any of this? Does it get better? Any advice? I have lost 6 pounds so far from not being able to eat and today I only had about 3 bites of yogurt. I am STARVING!
I could not IMAGINE putting a child through this. This has been far worse pain for me than child birth was. And labor only lasted 24 hours for me, this has been for days. The worst experience I have ever had. :(
