I just planted 24 apple trees in a well prepared location. It just rained 4" and now the field is one big mud puddle. The trees are in mud and standing water. The land is not a low or wet place but since I disced it up it is very wet.The soil was very compacted so I had to disc. Some of my trees are in standing water and the rest are in mud.I was wondering if they will drown. The land used to be a vegetable garden an grew good vegetables.
Flooding
As long as the site was a successful garden spot it should have good drainage. A 4" rain will cause a lot of standingwater on level ground and naturally would cause mud in a recently disced area. I would check it in a couple of days and if there is still standing water then you have problems. If it dissipates then you should have nothing to worry about. My ground in rolling and therefore I plant most of my trees on a slope but the ones on the level have had no problems at all.
