I didn't think that part of the garage would get so cold! The water in the forcing vase froze and broke the glass vase. Does that mean I should throw out the hyacinth bulb that has it's roots frozen in the water?

If the bulb is still firm its probably ok. No harming in putting it in another container and see what happens.
