Hi Harm! I know nothing about silkies, but, wanted to express my sympathy about your little brooding eggs. I pray for your success on the next attempt. Haystack

Thanks Haystack ^_^

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Mine did that too Harmony.. Like they are curled at the ends.. Same with the Cochins.. looks like they are trying to be frizzled.. but they straighten out later.

(Zone 7b)

Thanks ZZ i haven't had silkies in 2 years and i didn't remember if they did that. I know with my OEGB thats a warning sign something is wrong their wing feathers come out curved to their body.
Glad to know it's normal for the silkies mine are really growing.

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

Sometimes they have angel wings where the ends are kind of backwards. I have one right now like that, but she does fine.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

awww! You have Angels Harmony! How cute!
No silkies here...yet!

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

I have two tiny chicks, even with all the snow. If anybody wants them....come and get them! I'll even provide cocoa and cookies!

Clarkson, KY

gee, it's not much further west...

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Ohhh, I so wish I was closer. Are they Silkies?
We do want to get a few. We will probably wait until Spring now.
:(

Clarkson, KY

Might be closer than I am, lol. Have to look you two up.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Sounds good Grow! We can all meet for CoCoa and cookies.
Road trip!

Clarkson, KY

gack. I was reading Minnisota and thinking SO no way...

Your trip came up 582 miles
Mine was 625. You win!!

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

Yes, the are silkies. What other chicken would sit in the middle of winter? They look like they are going to be blues. I haven't disturbed them to get a closer look. It's so funny to stand in 32 inches of snow and hear chicks peeping.

Clarkson, KY

Sewin' and I are on our way. We'll want cocoa and cookies in 11 hours... well...maybe not...

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Mine didn't do that Harmony. They did on the frizzles but not the silkies, except on their head and tail - all the feathers stick out there!

(Zone 7b)

It's late here Claire i will get a pic and place it here tomarrow.

Man with all this wild weather i've had a hard time staying online

(the headache didn't help either)

How much do silkies weight when they are full grown? And how big are there eggs.

(Zone 7b)

I'm not sure about weight but they lay a medium egg.

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

i weighed a couple of mine today and they weigh between a pound and a half and two and a quarter, The chicks wouldn't even register on my scale.
The eggs are about ping pong ball size. so you can imagine how tiny the chicks are!)

I was wondering if I got silkies and put them in with the ones I have now would they pick on them because they are smaller,my hens weigh about four pounds and my rooster is about five pounds. This my flock

Green they may pick on them being that the silkies would be smaller than them. I would sudgest putting the silkies by themselves and not with the bigger chickens.

awwwww lucky you!
My silkie hatched under a normal hen (not silkie) when we got the eggs from school.
Only one little guy but im still pretty happy about it!
Lucky its not winter christmas in australia!
Thanks all
