As many of you know, I have been feeding the birds on my balcony since last summer. I now have 60- yes 60 - house sparrows, 12 mourning doves, 10 gold finches and a blue jay. I have four feeders for the sparrows and doves, a thistle feeder for the finches and a pan of peanuts for the blue jay. I feed them twice a day and they eat every bit. I buy 80 pounds of bird seed a month. It's getting expensive.
I may have to move. Would you believe management has allowed a pit bull to move in to the building ? I'm terrified.
What will happen to my birds when the food suddenly isn't there ? I feel responsible for them.

What Will Happen
Hi Countrymom, They'll be fine. They might keep checking on the porch for awhile but they'll find food elsewhere either naturally or at other feeders.
I know how you feel. I've often thought of this myself if I moved.
Start cutting down on the food supply a month or so before you leave, reduce to zero for the last few days.
Resin
Thanks, pelletory and resin. When we decide to move, I will begin cutting down on their food. I hate to leave them. The mourning doves look in my window like they wish to know me better. I talk to them through the glass so I don't scare them away.
Anyway, thanks for the good advice.
