After waiting i finally removed the eggs and one seemed to have died early on in the brooding.
The other one was fully formed but hadn't absorbed the yolk sac and was dead.
I spoke with some one who has these and he said give them another chance so i guess i will.
Maybe next time.......
My Diamonds didn't hatch
oh, Har, hate it for you. And they're trying so hard too...I wonder if the season is partly to blame? Don't know how but nature does take care of things this way...
aww, it is so hard to give up on them isn't it. We had chicken eggs that didn't hatch and it was hard to finally give up and pull them out. Maybe next time you will get a hatch.
I just went through this myself w/ my diamonds...I got them last week and they were on eggs, but of course after the move, they didn't sit on them anymore and I had to toss the eggs. :0(
Maybe next time it will go better, esp. if this was their first clutch. Sometimes birds need a couple of clutches to get the hang of incubating and parenting. Don't feel too bad!
amanda
My first clutch of umbrella cockatoos didn't survive either, but after that ... no troubles. The first set syndrome, possibly.
Awww Too bad Harmony. If I were to guess, I'd think it's the season.. I know it's not much of a consolation. Nature knows when it's right. Maby next time, keep your chin up.
Thanks everyone i'm going to let them try again. I did find out they were doing the brooding wrong.
They were both in the nest all day instead of shareing the brooding. So i'm going to try a smaller nest that both can't fit in then they should swap out and share the brooding.
My silver female rejected her mate and the only solution is to put them with different mates. It being the holidays i don't have the money to afford a $40 pair of birds.
I will be selling the silvers or tradeing the silvers for something else. I have a friend who has these and i may be able to trade for some pigeons.
Thanks ZZ and it could be the season.
Harmony, I am so sorry about your babies.
They are beautiful birds! That picture is great.
Maybe next time. (Hugs)
poor little baby birds im sorry

very pretty birds though
Dominique
So sorry about your eggs
Thanks everyone i have had a bad headache and hadn't check my thread in a while.
Thanks again ^_^
I hope you are feeling better!
Harmony I finally found Diamonds doves at all places, but petsmart. They were bigger than I remembered and my cage would have been too small. I did then remember I left a huge parrot cage in the storage at our old house, so going to see if It's still there. They want 40/each for them, but they looked much lighter than yours. That may be my Christmas present!
George
See what you have put in my head! LOL I did buy a cute little set of finches. They fit perfect in the cage and I didn't know the male sang. I just love them! Didn't want to hijack your thread, but I seem to remember you wanted to see the cage also. Meet Malarie and Mickey.
It's the stinky weather system, Har. Came through here a day and a half ago.
Thats a beautiful cage daylilydaddy! It looks old...antique! Is it? The finches are cute too.
I had two finches. Ozzy and Hariet. They were sweet. I loved their songs.
Sorry haveing problems with my DSL will try a little later.

Just saw this now Harmony, and I am so very sorry to hear it. I've been busy studying for final exams, and then bathing the goat, and didn't see this. I know how much you wanted this time to work and I am so sad that it didn't. I am sure they will figure it out soon, how to do it right and have a successful hatch. Fingers crossed for them and for you.
Thanks Claire and everyone ^_^
Daddydaylily That is a cool cage and those spice finches are nice i had zebra finches about 8 years ago.
You said the Diamonds were $40 each i wished you lived here i could get you a pair for $35.
Sorry for your loss Harmony. {{hugs}} Hopefully they will get the brooding down better next time.
I hope you are feeling better with your headache.
Sue ☺
don't feel bad harm, my first 4 frillback eggs were all duds. so we r trying again also. i think their tails r way to long and getting in the way but mabe they r just to young yet i don't get it but we will see i guess. pair #2 who laid eggs last time r who i've been hearing calls and seen mate again. pair 3 who r new r the another pair calling so soon for first try for them i hope and pair #1 r just ignoreing each other for now, lol. if it doesn't work by third round i'm tradeing their mates around see if that does anything.
i sure feel for ya i'm really bummed no babies too. i wanted christmas babies to spoil!!!
Sorry to hear that but they do that sometimes and it's normal. You can always switch them but be prepared they may fight a bit. When i place mine together which i just did a pair yesterday the female tried to bite off the males head. They can't really hurt eachother and today they were on the perch together on seperate ends mind you but thats a start.
My Diamonds as the old saying go's third times a charm.
Well we will be leaveing soon to go get a bite then get THE TREE!. I'm so excited!!
Update we have 2 eggs I repeat 2 Eggs and only one is sitting on the nest and they are shareing in the brooding.
I sold my silvers saturday and they went to a good home.
Great!!!!!!!! Keeping my fingers crossed.
Awsome! 2 eggs! and they have the process down!
Did you get the smaller nest or did they just do it on there own?
I am so happy for you. We will be watching...is it 21 days as well?
I gave them a smaller nest which forced them to share the brooding instead of both brooding side by side in the nest which they did before.
It's 14-15 days until they hatch i'm not counting i'm just writeing it on the calendar and trying not to peek at the days. "Yea right"
I am sooo glad. It sounds like you've all gotten it down!! Surely some wonderful babies are in your future!! Sounds like size of nest was a big part of it?
Well i been working and worrying with them and the only other alternative is me sitting on them LOL!!
Let's give the birdies one more go at it first!! ;-)
LOL! Why can i picture that..you sitting on these eggs! Too funny.
I cant wait to see pictures of these tiny birdy babies!
I bet they are so cute!
Well to their mother they are.
I'm excited about your new eggs Harmony! Woo hoo!
