Some of you may be interested in getting the Dart550PC plastic cups as they are the same size as a 3" squatty pot at a fraction of the cost. Of course, you will have to make your own holes in the bottom for drainage.
They are offered in lots of 2500 or in lots of 125 ($4.79)...scroll down to see. You can order several of the 125's at the same UPS shipping rate of 11.00 -
The lot of 2500 is waaay cheaper per cup but who needs that many?

Dart550PC= 3" squatty pot
These work well as the next step up from solos (3oz) when repotting and moving up a size.

The link won't let me open the cup link . . . but these are ok prices. I'll have to check the restaurant supply store where I get my 1oz cups to see what they've got.
Okay, let us know what you find out.
Try the link later? When I clicked on it, it opened. I've had the same trouble though too when trying to click on other links in the forum sometimes.
I compared, and these are exactly the same as a 3" squatty.
It worked for me--unfortunately-- UPS dosn't deliver to my home:(
The website link itself worked, it was the additional link to the cup that didn't. I blame it on my work pc. I'll bet it will work tonite when I get home!
I'll be glad to send you some HBG if you want when I get them.
I'm printing that page. I know I get a better deal locally for the 1oz cups. I'll check in the morning on these other sizes. I suppose if there is enough interest, we could do a "co-op" for them . . .
That would be awesome!!--Thanks SO much. It is really hard for me to get good deals on supplies since I can't get UPS or FedEx deliveries. jlmk the cost for cups, postage etc and I can paypal you or send a check
I get to take DH to work tomorrow, since I only work a half day. If I have time before 10am, I'll stop by and compare different sizes & lids. If not before, then after. It's all of 5 minutes away by car. I could walk it during lunch, but I'd get there and have to turn right around. Hmm . . .
Good syrumani...make sure it is these exactly.
HBG...do you want 125? or less? or more lol?
125 would be perfect!! BUT--I will take any amount once you get what you need. I am just grateful you are willing to take the time to ship to me!! jlmk when to send you pmt ^_^
Is there any difference between Dart & Solo in regards to quality? I'm looking on both websites, and they look the same. The restaurant supply down the street carries Solo.

I do not know the difference in quality per se between Dart and Solo but I know for sure the Dart550PC is the right size.
HillbillGran - The cost of 125 is $4.79 and I will ship the cheapest way Parcel Post or whatever if that's what you want or if you are in a hurry, then Priority. It's up to you to decide. I expect to have them in a week to ten days hopefully and will let you know when I get them. If you decide not to get them, okay too. It's no problem for me to send them.
Sometimes priority is not but a few cents more than parcel post--so do what is easiest for you--I am thrilled to be getting them. I also do not mind chipping in on the initial shipping costs to you. Be sure to send your regular e-mail addy via d-mail so i can pay you!!
No need to send anything for the initial shipping cost because if you buy one lot of125 or five lots which is what I did, the shipping is the same for all. In other words, shipping UPS is 11.00 whether you buy one lot of 125 or several lots of 125.
You are right about Parcel Post being very little to any cheaper once a certain weight has been attained.
Does anyone have a Sam's Club near them? Would they carry these cups? They do sell the Solo cups and other type of catering restaurant style items as well. That could save on the shipping of these cups/containers.
I was just able to pull up pictures of the cups, these are the cups and the lids that you can get at Sam's Club, ok don't laugh, but I use to use them to make Jello Shots for my annual New Years Eve party!! So many uses!! LOLOL
If anyone would like some of these cups, I will gladly get them for you. Only for price of cups and the shipping would be fine. Just let me know if anyone is interested, if we all split one case everyone would have more than plenty I'm sure!!

I don't know about Sam's . . . but Costco does carry some solo items, but not the smaller items we're looking at.
I'm hoping the restaurant supply here in town will have the 5.5oz squat 'pots' . . . that could save alot of shipping.
I ordered 375 of them as the brand Dart is my favorite (translucent) and no one around here carries this particular size which matches up with the 3" squatty pot for streps and other plants coming out of a solo cup. I have looked everywhere. Dart is available in one and two ounces but when you get to 3ounces I have to use Solo and they are too hard to cut with the scissors. Besides, I like looking at the root system. It is a heck of a deal for me compared to what I have been paying for real plant pots from vendors. I like the 3" squatty pot but didn't order more and ran out of them. The 21/2" square is just too deep for baby streps coming out of a solo cup.
I'm not sure of the brand at Sam's and I think the ones I used were the smaller ones. I LOVE LOVE Sam's so it will just be sooo hard to make sure I go! LOL, but I will make note of the sizes/brands, just in case someone would be interested. If not, thats ok too. Like I said, just breaks my heart to have another reason to go!!! hummmm, maybe tomorrow after I visit my Mom!! Kevin (DH), also likes to go there, so if he wants to go may be later on in week.
Laura-- if you run across the 1oz or 2oz condiment cups plmk. I have lots of uses for those--they are awesome for seed sowing. Our nearest Sams is about 90 miles from here and I won't be going til the days get longer since I like to be home by dark--something about these old eyes and windy roads--hmmmmm
They seem smaller then a 3 inch pot
JIM
I have a 5 ounce dart regular cup here and it looks like if it were shorter it would be perfect.............have you used them, Jim?
I think these are 51/2 ounces.......not much difference............but I really don't like going from a solo to a 21/2"square or a round...........

Here is a 5ounce (not a 51/2 ounce squatty pot) with a big 3" squatty pot (it is bigger than the white ones from John Cook)
I think when you consider that all 5 1/2 ouncs will go in a souffle cup, it will work well. Remember the 5 ounce glass is a totally different shape. Now I am going to tape the bottom of the 3 inch pot and fill it with 5 1/2 ounces of water and see where we stand.
I don't shoot my mouth off for no reason lol and I do think before I talk. The Dart550PC (5.5oz) is exactly the same as a Poppelman 3" squatty pot. How do I know? Because I compared them side by side in front of my eyes.
Thought everyone might be interested in saving money. If money was no object, then I would gladly order the 3" squatty pots and be done with it and prefer it.
I put water in the 3" pot and it is the same.....................
The ones from Sam's that I use to get were not as big as GoldLeaf's for sure! But I will still take a gander while I'm there, and will check out the brand too, for some reason I'm thinking that they were Solo, but please don't hold me to it.
I think these are a great idea!! And I think the idea of them being translucent is a neat idea also! I had not thought of that before.
I joined in a Co-Op in October and got some of these bulb pans that I love: http://www.novoselenterprises.com/products/single.asp?ID=484618
I just wish I had ordered more than 25! I got them for 29 cents each! I also wish I had ordered more of the little 6" hanging baskets. I only got five of those and they were 92 cents each. I am hoping someone does another Novosel Co-Op in the spring.
Still, 32 cents each is not bad, is it? I'm thinking of getting some, co-op or not . . .
Not bad at all.
We have a Sams Club about a mile down the road. I am going to check to see what they have.
I think the thing with novosel is the shipping charges-- I looked into the hanging baskets and it was going to cost as much to ship a few as they cost--actually doubling the price. if you buy a lot--shipping is free.
Well, the closest ACE could get to 5.5oz cups was this: http://www.acemart.com/prod5786.html
So, GoldLeaf91011's link on the first post is better for that. However, the 1oz cups at ACE were 250 for $3.25.
you are talking about two different things...........you are talking about a cup, Syrumani and Goldleaf is talking about the souffle cup that is shaped like a 3" squatty pot. (I think)
I understand that, Gail. I was just stating what ACE had on their shelves this morning, and this was the closest they had to the 'squatty' pots.

sorry.........I had shown a picture of the difference between a 5ounce cup and a 3" pot which is exactly what Goldleaf was offering in that web site she gave. It is a good deal and exactly fits the bill. I can't think of a reason to use the 5 ounce cup except for kids to drink out of........
