I am Canadian

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Well now..Let me tell you a bit about myself..I, like a lot of us when we discovered Dave's.. just jumped right in. I first spent most of my time looking at the Photos Forum.."a picture is worth a thousand words"
. People here have been so wonderful..like making new friends..I notice a lot of familiar names now..and I try to get them straight in my head.
I have become obsessed with my garden and now with this DG site.
I read somewhere that there are "gardeners" and there are "plant collector's" I think I am falling into the plant collector's category..as I am always wandering the garden centre's looking for a new plant "that talks to me". Then I have to find a place to plant it.

I live about 50 miles east of Toronto ON Zone 5...I'm sure most of you Americans know of Toronto. In my area there are a lot of Apple orchards. About six years ago I purchased two thirds of an acre behind my original property of 100 by 150ft to make up 1 acre now. It was part of an old neglected apple orchard. Four years ago I was inspired by the book The Secret Garden and decided to have a gazebo built in the middle of it and turn it into a special place to go to play and sit and relax. "A Garden is a friend you can visit anytime"

I still work during the day..but when I do retire I want to spend much of my time "creating" in my garden. Now almost all my spare time is spent making the garden bigger and better..I love it..and I love to give people "the garden tour"
I have a digital camera Olympus D360L and take lots of pics of my flowers. I really enjoy nature and all her beauty, sunsets..walking trails..and driving in the countryside.

My I am going on here..this wasn't to be a an autobiography.. ;)
Any more Canadians out there on Dave's?
I am amazed at the technical savvy of Dave and Trish.
Thanks for being there..and thanks for having me..
Cheers,
Carol

is that why you chose newcastle? to be close to home? hehe! hope we can trade sometime, nice to see another brit. you should check out the United Kingdom forum too..

Newcastle, ON(Zone 5a)

Newcastle came just by chance..but I love it here.
I was only 9 months old when I came to Canada..no relatives left there. Never been back. Dad was a Canadian soldier going to Sandhurst Military College..mum was the Brit.
Both have passed on now. Maybe once I get into this more I will be brave enough to try to save seeds. I have only saved marigolds before and poppy and moonflower. All others I have bought. I have taken some Zinnia heads from my giant ones..they were fabulous..hope to be able to start more this coming winter. Not sure just what the seed part is though.
P.S.
I am also a bar-person...as I read on your page.
We are called bartenders over here.
Cheers,
Carol

Hi Dori
I chuckle everytime I see your "notmartha" name. My favorite story about Martha is the one where you save the carcass of a turkey..spray it gold and turn upside down to make a sleigh! It was in one of those joke thingies..
Thanks for the compliment on my pics..I do so love to take pics. They help jog the memory..and at my age we all need a little help in the memory dept. LOL
And thanks for the invite..gardeners are so friendly and welcoming.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Starzz, welcome to DG...ah yes, the Martha trick with the turkey carcass turned Xmas decoration - I got a chuckle out of that one, too!
