There are many two tone green birds at my house that I have never seen. Can you help with these terrible pictures taken through a dirty window and a screen? Thanks........I would really like to know.
They are two shades of green.....the upper part is a lime green almost and the bottom a much darker green......almost an emerald color......
Please help ID these birds

thanks so much............I just moved back to the country 2 1/2 years ago and feel helpless when it comes to all these wonderful birds. I tried for a year to put up feeders but our wind often gusts to 50 mph and they get thrown to the ground..........it gets expensive to keep replacing them. Where besides hanging from a tree can I put bird feeders? Thanks again.
They kept trying to eat the pomegranates which are so hard right now..........but they got some of them for nutrition.
wow, that's a nice bird to have!
They are beautiful...................hope they stay around!
I just sent a note to someone south of you to keep a look out for them!
good for you!
Yep, Green Jay. Good one to get! Mainly native to South America up to Mexico, it only just gets into the very south of Texas.
If I remember rightly, first time Green Jay has featured on this forum!

I do live in south Texas but I am two and a half hours from the Mexican border. I have never seen one in my life and I grew up in this same place.
You are very lucky then. Keep stalking them and get as many pictures as you can. Try putting out peanuts and dried fruit for them. If they are anything like the norther jays, you can get them close for viewing this way.
Glad you mentioned that Resin. I was pretty sure it was a first for us.
Thanks Gessie!
The only dried fruit I could find were Crasins...........you know the mix between cranberry and raisen. I think they are around because I have kept the cat in the house all day..........and now she won't come in........have to go get her.......

That's because Texas is so huge ;-)
Looked up some maps, you're very close to the extreme northern edge of where Green Jays occur, so they could well be fairly rare. Generally, people say you have to be right down on the lower Rio Grande to be at all sure of seeing them.

Thanks, Resin. Now I have thrown a big can of peanuts out under all the trees and the crasins. Some kind of birds will eat well today! I do so hope they come back so I can get a good picture. Because I had never seen these birds, I didn't want to take a chance and scare them off if I tried to get outside to take a picture............bummer, I don't see them now. But they have a lot of food if they want it...........
We may get a really good picture before this is over. I forgot about a friend of my brother's who is crazy wild about bird watching and Jimmy is going to call him about the green jay and see if he has them.
That's so great - a GREEN Jay. One of these days hope to see more than come here.

Make sure the peanuts aren't salted. If they are, wash them off.
sorry........they are salted and all over the ground........can't do anything about it now.............
Got a lawn irrigation system? Irrigate them for a bit, that should get the worst of the salt off.
Resin
yah, or blast them with the hose.
I will blast them with the water hose in the morning.............have to leave in the morning to go out of town for dental work...............but I am confident that my brother's friend will likely have seen them, too.........and will have better pictures to share..............he doesn't miss a bird that comes through here.......
