Need Help with Butterfly Daffodil forcing, please?

Clinton, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi there all,
I bought a box of 3 sets of Butterfly Daffodils at our local hardware store, but I live in Zone 5a and, so quite obviously, since it's going to snow tonight, I rather missed the boat in getting them into the ground due to illness problems. The bulbs are still in really good condition, with only a layer or two of dry skin and no sprouting as of yet. My question is this, can I force these bulbs now, and--if that is possible--do I have to go through the cold period of 12-16 weeks as I had read elsewhere? If I can, I'd like to use a wide-mouth vase with glass marbles or similar small glass pearls so that I can have a few of them--since they all have completely differente tri-color blooms--so, if properly seated, will the bulbs force without being a disaster. The reason I don't want to use soil is because I have a cat who enjoys playing in it. Your input is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks so very much!

Sincerely,
Thor

I'm just now found your thread. I hope you've potted the bulbs as planned by now. For the first season, prechilling the bulbs isn't neccessary. (they come to us prechilled from the vendors). Good lucks, have fun. After the blooms are spent, I would plant them out in the garden to replenish their energy for the growing season, give them fertilizer too once you transplant them out (later). Happy New Year, and happy gardening.
