So I've heard everything from "a wonderful fragrance" to "light delicate smell, but have not been strong" I realize many factors come into play with this to include one's personal scent preference to the type of soil the plant is grown in etc. What has ya'lls personal experiences been with regard to the fragrance of this plant - do you like it? Don't like it? Lightly scented? Heavily scented? Inquiring minds want to know.

Nyctanthes Arbor-Tristis - opinions please
Chantell,
Mine is blooming right now and I'll add my 2 cents. The flowers are absolutely adorable, so pretty and waxy looking, and since they have orange in them, I love them! The scent, to me, is candy sweet, reminds me a little bit of Night blooming Jasmine. I don't find that the scent carries at all, I really have to put the tip of the branch up to my face to smell them, which may be good, since the smell is really intoxicating when the flowers are right there at your sniffer.
I tried over the summer to root some cuttings, but had no luck at all. Has anyone else had success? PF says semi-hardwood cuttings, maybe mine were too green.
I'm not really happy with where I planted mine, I was told it was more of a bush, but I think down here, it will grow into a small tree easily. Oh well.
Cathy
Ahh Cathy - thank you so much for such a perfect description!!! That was very helpful!!
Mine have been also flowering. To me, it's boiling honey with toasted grain thrown in. It's been unusually cool here; it makes the flowers stay attached until mid day!
I have had success rooting a half hardwood cutting....it even flowered while quite small. One year old seedling recently transplanted from 3 gallon to 5 gallon pot started flowering. It's twin I didn't transplant and it has not flowered.
!! Kevin !! ^_^
Good to see you over "here!!!" Sure you have all kinds of pretties you could give insight on - please don't be a stranger!!
Chantell
Chantell my NAT has been a bit lax this year, I guess it's a rest year (if they have those at all) or I'm just missing the flowers by morning. I guess it got neglected this year a bit so I'll have to give it some new soil to make it happy. I started a thread a while back the first time mine flowered, http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/781086/
I waited and waited for this plant to flower and the first blooms were disappointing to me, I have grown to like this plant, the fragrance has grown on me but it is not one of my favorites, not like jasmine, gardenia or heavenly scent associated with those, mind you it is a beautiful flower and I love the way it drapes so I've kept it.
OMG...just went to your thread....ya'll just increase my want list every time I visit the FL threads!!! ^_^ Hugs!!!
interesting that all posters so far were floridians. I've never heard of it, but again, I'm not at the vanguard of fragrant plants. I am a Chantell follower.
Nery - you are too funny!! I've gone in search of many-a-plant after hearing YOU rave about them, my friend!!! We're all co-enabler's we are!!! ^_^
