Noticed these on my hibiscus bush several days ago. At first I thought they were aphids. But they haven't moved, doesn't appear that the leaf has been damaged. Was going to break it off and throw it away then thought maybe BF or moth eggs. There was a Swallowtail and several Skippers and a Sulpher on this bush as the pickins are getting thin w/ the cool/cold weather.
So, before I go pick that leaf off...anybody got imput?? I'm new to BF watching, so don't want to kill them off if not necessary!!
thanx

Bugs or Eggs??
Can't tell by the photo. Hairstreaks and some skippers use mallow/hibiscus as a larval host. However, hairstreaks tend to lay their eggs (a single one at a time) deep inside a new bud or new leaf and skippers will lay them on the underside of a leaf. Some skippers will lay a small cluster of eggs and others one at a time under different leaves.
You might have white fly on your hibiscus. I get them here - pesky bugs.
You can keep a watch on it and let us know what happens. If you caterpillars hatch - post photos :o) Perhaps from there we can help narrow it down.

Should I take the leaf off the plant and put it in something? Easier to keep an eye on.
You can remove the leaf (or a small twig that has the leaf attached) and stick the end into wet floral foam. That will keep it fresher longer...just remember if it is a butterfly or moth egg it may take up to ten days to hatch. Same thing kind of goes for bugs. Can you post a close up photo of the 'eggs' - can't quite make them out on the larger photo.

I'll try to get a better pic today.
