My new boy

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

I finialy got a male peacock for my three year old female! I traded a 28 pound Thanksgiving turkey for him. He is in with the chickens till he is fully acclimated and knows this is his home. Beep, my female stood in front of the pen and flirted with him for the first week, but would not join him. One day last week I opened the pen to feed him and in she went. She is trying to coax him into the coop in the photo.

When he came, he only had one eye in his tail and now he has several coming in. I can't wait till spring when I can let them out into the yard!

Mine have always gotten along fine with everyone but the black birds and grackles. Beep displays and chases them away. Go figure. We've had her with turkeys, chickens and ducks. We call her the mayor of the yard, she has an idea in her head of where everyone belongs and is constantly trying to herd them back where they belong. That includes me. If I am out of the yard, but she can see me, she calls to me till I come back.

How exciting! He is so beautiful. Will they breed? Baby peacocks must be adorable but they probably go through a scraggly phase just like chicks. I would love to try having them but I know they can be rather noisy. Probably roosters are enough already!

She sat a nest last year even though they were not fertile. I have high hopes for this summer. I even tried to put a duck egg that was ready to hatch under her, but when it hatched, she just looked at it and let it wander away. I've been told that the hard part is not getting them to breed, but the hen to set, so I figure that i'm better than halfway there!

Envy is an ugly, ugly emotion. I will say no more:0)

He's beautiful! Your roo is quite handsome too! One of our neighbors has a pair of white peacocks but I've only seen them from afar.
Years ago a lady who lived about 1/2 mile from us lost hers. My uncle found them roosting in his trees! Do you build roosts for them like the chickens?

Beautiful!

This is Petey he just showed up one day in June and has never left. He hangs out with our Guniea Fowl but he has a ton of personality and we love him. We call this his "she truck". Nobody suggest I get him a female the only thing I don't have is a sheep, maybe one will just show up.

I Dont Have One Either! whaaaa!
I want one now too, and a duck!

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

They are kind of loud. We live way out in the country and Guniea Fowl are louder so my neighbors are use to me and all my chitters. Sometimes when he displays he is up by our front gate and the few people that drive by actually stop and watch him. One time when this happened I was in the barn and I hid there so these people wouldn't think I was nuts. When my kids call him he comes running. He looks at his reflection in our glass doors so I'm always stepping over or picking up his droppings.
