Hi PalmBob. Is this seedling variegated? That would be cool.

yes it is

Will be interesting to see if you get variegated pups from it.

So it will be an unsolved mystery!

This Agave looks like Agave 'Sierra Mixteca FO-076'

From a few discussions a year or two ago, it was discovered that 'Sierra Mixteca FO-076' and A. titanota were getting confused with each other alot. Personally, I can see a world of difference between the two. The thorns are a dead giveaway.

Here's some old threads discussing it.

Here's another thread discussing the big mix up.

Hi Xeno. I am surprised by the pics at RBG. All the pics and the actual ones of Agave titanota I have seen do not really look like the ones on the San Marcos site. I just read your old threads. So what about the thorns are a dead give away? I guess the thorns in the RBG pics are so staid.

I just bought an Agave titanota. It has some serious issues with the older leaves but the new leaves are spectacular. So you think mine is really a Agave Felipe Otero?

It kind of looks like http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=3165126

So Agave 'Sierra Mixteca FO-076' is Agave Felipe Otero.

I am going to see Brian today but he is so busy with getting ready for a sale I do not want to push my luck and bug him at all. PS PalmBob I have not broached him yet about your pretty blue agave because of the sale.

Kell,
From what I can see of your close-up pict, I would say you have 'Sierra Mixteca FO-076'
Do you have another pict of the whole Agave?
Not only does FO-076 have curved knarly marginal thorns but the leaves are more square-ish.

I was going to take another shot of it for this one is too dark. It is lighter in color. Bu tyou can see the leaves which are thick. Thanks Xeno.

Looking at them closer now, you probably have an A. titanota.
I still think Palmbob's photo at the top is 'FO-076'

you should talk to Kelly Griffin... he often goes to the type locations for Agave titanota and thinks the this Sierry Mixteca plant is just a normal and common variant of Agave titanota. Plants are intermingled and spread throughout the entire state where titanotas are found.
