Free milkweed seeds

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7b)

First time to post here but wanted to pass on some info I ran across. FYI, in case this hasn't already been posted here, if you go to Livemonarch.org, they are giving away milkweed seeds to help replenish caterpillar food source. Just send SASE and they will send you some seed. Also, for every dollar you donate they will send 50 seeds. Monarch is our state butterfly here in Texas, so of course I want to do my part to ensure that the caterpillars have something to eat while they are up here. :) Check out the site and tell your friends to plant some milkweed. Thanks.

bump this thread up for more viewer. :-) I love those flowers! Once you get them started in our Southern garden, we shall have seeds for the following years. Love those Monarch/Queens butterflies!

No one other than Lily replied so I guess not alot of interest in free milkweed seed. :) Oh well, I got mine along with some others that I have traded for so I'll be growing alot of milkweed.

Welcome aardvark7! Hope to see more posts from you on the butterfly forums!! Good for you to inform and share seeds with your neighbors!!

I don't know about you, but I can't wait until spring when the Monarchs start coming back through. I had cats on my MW in early April last year!! When they came back in Aug/Sept, I raised and released 44 monarchs!!

Hope you also join us for the plant Round Up next April in Arlington. We usually have 40 or more people there. We bring a covered dish and any plants we want to share. All the info will be on the Texas Gardening forum after the first of the year.

Just running into your thread today. There's just so much ground to cover, there's probably many others like myself who just haven't seen your thread yet...

And thanks for the info...milkweed is in my top wishlist of plants for the garden. I think it is a beautiful native and so is the monarch butterfly. I didn't realize that monarch was our state butterfly either!!

On my way to see if I can get some seeds....

Oh, yes Lily_love...there is such a wealth of information at DG that my head is spinning!.... because every bit of it is interesting and I want to learn as much as I can! I better slooow dooown because I can only retain so much info at a time..LOL!

DG is definitely a wonderful garden to be hanging out in and I am thrilled to have found it!

Sheila_FW - you released 44 new monarchs! Awesome! I've been planning/working on a butterfly garden all autumn and hope I'll be able to contribute some healthy monarchs too! :) I'm looking forward to the roundup in April - hope to see you there. :)

Yeah there is so much good info on DG, I could probably get into all kinds of trouble for staying on DG forums all the time. When I see my hubbie checking on me periodically and looking neglected I know I've been on too long and have to make myself get out of DG. :) But he's out of town this week (chuckle, chuckle).

But for right now I'm on a mission to get some more folks to plant milkweed, so I'm going to head over to the Texas Gardening forum and bump up my own "Free milkweed" thread over there and see if anyone notices it.

Thanks yall for bumping up this thread and helping to spread the news.
