Cider Gum 'Silver Drop'
Eucalyptus gunnii

This is my back-up, incase the one in the ground doesn't like the Roanoke VA winter.

gtr1017, how did your Cideer Gum do over this crazy winter. Mine has been in the field since last summer and all look pretty well except they have some spots from the cold. It was brutal weather for them but they are alive. I am trying to find out if I should cut the back to let the get new growth this Spring. Any suggestions?

Well it has been windy and cold, the one I have planted outside, looks very much different than the indoor one. It has spots and the leaves are a mottled darker green color and the stems are almost red. The near near 0 °F has definitely effected this plant, but it is still alive. So I am just going to wait and see what developes in the spring, this was the first winter in the ground.

I am thinking of cutting mine back and see what happens in the Spring. They seem o.k. but they have some marks on the leave that looks like frost or freeze marks. Are you going to cut yours back? Yesterday one of my customers came and took quite a few cuttings and said she was going to use them in arrangements. I did not charge her for them because of the colors. She did not seem to mind. I was thinking of cutting and hanging them to see if they all turn brown, the color of the tips. Jacquie

Update, I did not cut mine back, new leaves came out where the winter withered ones were, and it put on new growth to boot. Not a lot of growth but the plant looks healthy again and ready to get another beating this winter....G
