I sent out some cuttings of a plant that has a reputation of being hard to root. After I finished chopping there was a scrawny end piece that was left over. You know, a green tip piece about 6-7 inches. Too pitiful to want to send to anyone so I stuffed it next to the mother plant. I'll be darned if it isn't growing new leaves. If I'd cared, it would probably be a shriveled up mess as we speak. Life sure is funny sometimes.
Cuttings only die if you care too much.
Mary I would take that one in a heartbeat, I have been after this brug for awhile.
I have heard something about starting plants with the mother plant... something about the mother plant possibly putting out a hormone that helps the cuttings get started. Well, at least you have another new plant! Way to go... maybe a good Chritmas gift for some deserving brug lover.
Tammie
Dawna does that all the time with complete success.
Could be something to that hormone thing Tammie.
Got to wait and see if the the one I sent cuttings to is able to root his successfully. If his take, then you can have this one Elva, but I have to be sure he's taken care of first.
Mary
Ok Thanks so much Mary!
Hope his root!
Which plant is it?
I bet it's 'Rothkirch'. I've been after one also. Mary had one on e-Bay, but she also had a 'Fascination'. I wanted them both, but 'Fascination' tugged at my heart. She is doing well!
It is Rothkirch. I had trimmed her last summer into a standard, and now she has several buds. Maybe those hormones are flowing, or it's just dumb luck. LOL, whatever it is! I'm just going to pretend I don't notice it there so it doesn't curl up and die on me.
Mary
Rothkirch was my guess as well.. HMMM Interesting will have to give the Mother thing a try!!
Good Luck Elva!!..LOL

I have quite a few cuttings that are going to die if I don't start caring soon... LOL My Snow White, Texas Pink and My mothers NO ID White.... just been too sick to do anything about them since I cut them back before our first hard freeze a little over a week ago... just stuck a bubbler in them yesterday after they have been sitting in a bucket of water for over a week.. that should buy them a little more time.. they haven't even had all the leaves taken off yet... just letting them die off.. scooped a bunch of the dead ones out of the water. I know having that rotting stuff in the water will kill them. I just have to get well enough to work at least an hour at a time to get anything done.. I did just get the dishes in the sink washed.. that is progress! Now to rest!
I don't get rid of cuttings until the roots are also dead. I've had a number of "dead" cuttings come back from the roots.
