ID Question, Please

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Would you hoya experts call this one... hoya lanceolata bella variegated? If not, what would be correct? Thanks...

Very pretty. I'm not an expert or even a frequent poster, but I do think you have it Identified correctly.

And a very beautiful plant also !

Paula

Hi. That's such a beautiful plant - its called Hoya bella 'louis bois'. Have you had it long? I've had two and could not keep them alive.

Thanks everyone! I am growing it in my big front window where the light is bright but doesn't get direct sun. None of my hoyas really seem to like direct sun unless it is very mild morning sun and not for long. During the summer, I put them out on a covered porch protected from wind and that is when they grow like mad.

Thank you so much for the true id. I appreciate it very much. Hoyas can be a bit confusing sometimes.

I hope I will be able to continue to grow this one as I like it very much.

After finding out the name from you, I did a google search and found this -

I looked carefully this morning and it looks as if there might be bloom spurs forming? I found quite a few of these. Maybe?

Yup...probably the cooler wx.

If and when it blooms, I'll post a photo. Thanks, alaoha.

Hey ya GoldLeaf ... Wow, that is a beauty! I've never seen that one for sale before, love that foliage! Can't wait to see the blooms. Great growing!

Hi Lin,
It's not an EA plant, I just have it planted in one of their pots when it needed repotting to a larger size. I found this a while back at a local nursery in a 4". It's one of those places where you never know what they will get in from time to time.

Like linearis I don't think you see that one out and about too often. This past summer I walked into a Giant's Grocery Store and saw 5 of them - bought them all- kept one and traded or sold the others. Mine is still doing really well.

Just recently saw linearis at Lowes.

That's one gorgeous plant. You deserve a lot of credit having grown it from a 4 inch. This one seems like a real "diva" to me.

Wow on finding linearis like that, Kelly! Makes your heart pound a little faster at the luck of it. I hope I can stumble across one someday.

Susan, I will try to disregard what you said about it being a "diva".^_^. as I don't want to get nervous with it. I will keep thinking it's just one of the bunch. But...now I guess I better take some cuttings for insurance!

The window where most of the gang are located. The largest being a Princess hoya near the center in a 14" basket.

Very nice!

Pretty picture, Goldleaf. Mine look ugly because I can't stand not to propagate any and every one! I think I will let them all grow this winter and summer without cutting on them. (lol)

I just wandered over here and spotted your hoya. I got excited at first b/c I thought it was bella lancelota variegata, and I have that one, but the closeup of the leaves reveals a slight difference. yours is very pretty! Mine is still in a 2" pot and it just bloomed much to my surprise. I had just cut it back quite a bit to send cuttings to a friend.

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh neat yours bloomed, phoebesviolets! Where did you find your plant?

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

In your climate, Gail, they should grow fast I would think.

Hoyas do grow fast here. It is just because I cut on the available cuttings! (lol).............It doesn't seem to hurt them as they play catchup in a hurry since we have hot weather for so long........

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the link. The flowers are lovely! Do you grow yours in a window?

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Mine do so much better outdoors, gessiegail, but they will have to put up with what they've got for a while.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Wow...that's a beauty!
I've read/heard that it's difficult, too....I'm impressed with your results!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

GoldLeaf--yes, I grow all my hoyas in windows. I believe they prefer natural light. I cut all of them back this fall, so was amazed when this one bloomed. My AV's take up all the space with grow lights-LOL . I also have a few orchids blooming in the window---didn't expect that either!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks, Nan..I guess ignorance is bliss and I didn't know anything about this one being difficult in any way. Now I keep looking at it all the time and thinking "is it still okay?"^_^

Maybe cutting your plant back triggered something, phoebesviolets, or maybe it would have bloomed anyway. I have a few under lights downstairs...cuttings I rooted. I love orchids and could have more if I had the space. I have a couple mini phals starting to open their buds. I bought them 1/2 price as they weren't in bud or bloom. The same nursery that I got the hoya from has nice orchids and I go look at them and mark them in my mind and when they are done blooming, that's when I get them.
