7...thats great. How many eggs did you set?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

36 in the brower, I have a sportsman that was 14 dozen that is due to hatch in about 7 or 8 days. I have 10 chicks so far.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Oh, you can do it. You may actually look forward to going out to see them. They give me such joy when they come running over to see you!
7 little peeps! How awsome! PICTURES! PICTURES! chant. Cant wait to see the little fluff balls! Congrats luvs2garden!!!!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

thanks, I know ALL about them running to see me in the mornings. They KNOW I am going to feed them. Try making baby steps to the feed barrel while there are hundreds of chickens fighting to be first in line.

I am going to atwoods next week to get me some insulated coveralls and work boots, so as not to be to cold. Forget the gloves I can not work with gloves on.

I will get some pictures here in a little bit, I just got the 6 that hatched last night out of the brooder and they are trying to get their barrings.

Yea I have about 350+ chickens, almost every breed there is. I have about 50 ducks and 2 turkeys.

Polish, Jersey Giants, Delaware, Buckeye, Barred Rock, Red sex link, black sex link, Turken, Ameraucana, Black Australorp, Belgian D'Uccle, Brahma, Cochin, Dominique, Leghorn, Marans, Orpington, Phoenix, Sebright, Silkies, Welsummer, Wyandotte, to name a few.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

The silver ones are Jersey Giants.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Sweet! They will be beautiful!
Do you show? Sell eggs, sell chickens?
You must be very busy. My little crew of 12 keep me busy. LOL! I cant imagine your schedule.
hehehe!
Do you always hatch your own?
Sorry for all the questions. I guess I am nosey! :D

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

No sorries for the questions.

I do not show, maybe grandson will next year. Once they get a good production of eggs going I will sell, right now I just give to family and friends. YES I sell chickens. I have had alot of calls for laying pullets, so this spring I will have them ready that is why I am hatching now. I didnt want to during the winter. But I got the incubators so decided to give it a try. Had nothing better to do.

Really it does not take me long to feed and water the birds, I have them in 2 separate areas, and one I have to tote food for them but not a biggy.

Got one more hatch so we up to 11.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Yeah!!!! 11 How many did you put in? 36? WOW Is it usually about 50 % hatch rate or does it just depend on the roo? The most I ever had was 10 babies at once. Man they are cute. My daughter wants a turken hen and I would like a pair of Silkies and then we will be done. I really cant have too many. We only have a 20x10 run. Our house is only 8x5. (the hens house that is) hehehe! Keep us updated on the new arrivals.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Well this was my very 1st time hatching, and it took me a bit to get it right, at one point the temp was down to 85 or it was up to 106, so I am Thankful that I even got one to hatch. Now the sportsman I should have a good hatch rate. That one has 14 doz eggs in it for next week hatch. I will not hatch in the Brower again, it is to hard to keep the temp just right. The next time I hatch I am going to shoot for the dry method.

I do have a few more pipping and zipping now, will give it till Tuesday and the rest of the eggs will be tossed.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

I cant imagine having 14 dozen hatch at once. I remember my nerves after the 10 hatched. I think I forgot to breath a lot.
So the incubator has a lot to do with the rate. I do not have my own. We hatched ours at summer camp so the kids could have the experience with the little fuzzy peeps! It was great.
Of coarse once they were born I became so protective of them I didnt want anyone to hold them without sitting down and with two hands like the kids were 3 years old again. Even the big kids. hehehe!
I cant wait to see pictures of the dozens! A sea of chicks!! How awsome will that be?

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

I cant either this 36 eggs, I was up and down looking and checking, will be fun to say the least.

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

I expect a long running thread for the big event! LOL with moment to moment pics!
Not asking to much am I? hehehe
