How is it going?
Long time no talk.
Hey Guys
Hey Rich,
Where you been? Long time, no talk.
Carolyn
Been real busy atthe farm and sold out for this year!!
How you been?
We're all good. The ponding season is over for us northerners. I periodically go outside and watch the fish sit on the bottom of the pond and then it gets too cold and I have to come in. I know that both Linda and Tetleytuna suggested a roadtrip to see MerryMary - personally I think it was an excellent idea on their part. I have relatives down by Orlando - works very well for me!
Carolyn
She has alot if koi from me!
Laser/Rich; Nice to hear you sold out. How many fish did you move in a season? Is this more and less than previous years? How many fish die on you within in a season (estimate)? You must have some interesting procedures for controlling disease and treatments-care to share? I lost a lot of fish this summer to illness (my first year . . .rookies luck-not). I can't interact with my koi because I am zone 5a (chicago area) but would love to hear the business side of koi.
Linda
Hi, when you say "how many koi did you sell?" do you mean 2-3" culls or higher quality fish? We sell around 50,000 2-3" fish and around 500 nice quality fish. We rarely ever have fish die around here... Only baby koi fry die and that can be do to a number of reasons. Main procedure for keeping koi healthy is water quality. Every pond have fresh water added daily. Will be glad to help you restock in spring.
Rich
I doubt I will need any restocking. If the koi die I get something else into my pond.
I'm surprised to hear you say that hardly any of your koi die when you sell 50,000 fish per year. That would make you somewhat of a God I think. That is an impossible % of survival. I think your hedging a bit , okay, honestly, I think your hedging a lot.
Really, well I have been doing some 20 odd years, I know what works and what doesn't. Only time we really worry when koi are going to die is at fry stage. Don't forget I have got parent koi that are worth 1,000s of dollars so we heope we have somewhat of an idea on what we are doing.
Do you do a lot of preventative dips/treatments to keep them so healthy? I know the water needs to be great for their health but what else do you do? I had a lot of fish funerals over the summer . . .
Sorry to hear about that... Every single pond is covered over by nets and has a side well of mesh plastic to prevent attacks from the side and the top. We have top water quality and this is what makes us have great crops every year... We couldn't make money selling dead koi could we!?!?!
Don't mean to be rude our harsh in any way. =)
Rich
