Well, the one in the last few pics looks like a Silver-Spotted Skipper.

mellielong,

Thank you so much for the id!

Marilyn... I agree with the Silver Spotted id that Melanie gave. I am not sure on the other pics. Here is a great link to check out the markings for yourself. The link is KY, then you can select your county to narrow it even more.

As you will see there is so many species. Try the Cloudywings first, that would be my first guess.

Sheila,

Thank you so much! I think it's the Southern Cloudywing and it has been recorded in my county of Boone.

Sheila,
I am sooo glad you posted that link. It is an excellent easy site for idenification. !
I had this one in my file as a black swallowtail, but I believe it's a Palamedes...also it's missing it's right "tail"..
off to go look at other photo's and get them id'd (~?) also.

Yup, I think that's a Palamedes. They have a more "airbrushed" yellow than the Black ST. Also, the Palamedes have a striped body, not a dotted one. You can see the stripes on the head of the butterfly in your pic. On the underside the Palamedes has a diagonal line parallel to the body that's a dead giveaway, but since your photo only has the topside I went with some other clues.

Mellie,
The "dots" on the body of the picture I was comparing it to is what gave it away for me.
So I knew it was a Palamedes not a Black Swallowtail.
Much to learn,

And if I'm reading the descriptions right this is a Female Tiger Swallowtail...I posted this picture before...but haven't figured out the link thing here yet....

Very good, you're learning! But it seems like there's always more to know. Lovely Tiger there by the way. Those plumbagos reel them in. But whenever I want to see them they fly over to my neighbor's plumbagos. What does he have that I don't, LOL?

I'm with the BF's on the Plumbago thing!! I love the color. I have two really big plants, two smaller ones and a one pretty small one. Plus they are still blooming!! Something to feed the flying critters!!
