First Hatchling ever:

Ferndale, WA

The egg pipped about 4:30 Yesterday, I watched it closely and at 7:33 p.m it broke through the shell and about thirty minutes later it was free from the shell. I was a nervous wreck while it was struggling to break free, all the time wondering if I should help it. What an experience. It's an aracauna. It's drinking water already like crazy. How long before eyes open?

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Congratulations Haystack! That's super! Usually their eyes are open when they hatch. But they are constantly falling asleep when tiny, so maybe you just haven't seen it with the eyes open yet. That was a quick hatch - from 4:30 to 8 pm or so. Often I have pips that don't hatch until 24 hours later, or even longer. Hope you will post a picture!

Thanks Claire: Oh My Gosh Claire, I wished I could post a pic. My wife and I both are so inept with this computer. I don't have a clue how to do that. I don't know even how to get the picture into the computer to post it. I'm lucky to even be able to chat with you good folks. I'm in my seventies and have only been using a computer for about five months. When it comes to computers I am way out in left field. Someone told me how to do it once, but, It never worked and I was to frustrated to try anymore. Anyway as always good talking to you.

Clarkson, KY

Congrats!! The need to brag on my critters is the only thing that got me using this thing this much --it'll come, Haystack!!

Elbridge, NY(Zone 5a)

Oh haystack, I am so happy for you!!!!
My kids have taught me a lot about the computer! My oldest even showed me how to do a power point presentation. Ask a kid!
Are you hatching more little babies? I have to look up that breed and ohhh and ahh! Happy Thanksgiving!!!!! One more thing to be thankful for now! ;)

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Oh Haystack, my parents are in their seventies and they send me digital pictures all the time. 70 is the new 40. I'm not going to let you get away with that silly excuse! We can all help you to do this step by step. You'd be amazed at what my Dad has learned step by step from his far-away daughter! I'm assuming you have a digital camera of some sort, and you probably have a cable that came with it that plugs into the computer and into the camera at the same time. Now, important question....is your computer a macintosh, or a PC (Dell, HP, etc)? And, what is the model of your camera? Let's get started!!

Yeah!!!!! Tech help is here! PICTURES! PICTURES!...

Aracauna's lay the blue & green eggs.

Simple to post pictures on here. Go to the browse after the post area & then find your picture in your computer. Done.

Here's my babies when they arrived here. 8 weeks old today.

Hows the pics comin haystack? hehehe

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

My problem is finding pictures with thousands on my computer. I should get them on a disk, but they aren't hurting anything where they are.

Here's the chicks at 5½ weeks.

These are Gold Star layers.own eggs. ♥

Happy Thanksgiving, ☺

Hey there Country Gardens:WoW. what are your plans with all those little ones? I honestly thought I had a lot of chickens with about seventy-five but Yikes you guys smoke me. Did you hatch all those babies? I'm impressed. Then there's Innbetween with about 200. I can barely count that high. HappyThanksgiving

Ferndale, WA

Hi Sewincircle: Thanks for rejoicing with me, and yes I have one that should hatch today and one that should hatch tomorrow. I just bought this little three egg bator called Rcom from Brinsea. I wanted to expermint without spending a lot of money and what a fun experience. Thanks also to Grownut, There's nothing quite like having friends like all of you who share in our joy as well as disappointments. Happy Thanksgiving and stay safe to all of you here at Daves. Haystack.

OK CMox: My wife does have a digital camera, when she gets home from work I will find out about the cord connection, and by the way my computer is a HP. Does the cord plug into the monitor or the other piece? oop's forgot the name. I'll talk to you about six your time I think. Haystack.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Sounds good Haystack. The cord should plug into the other piece, which is often called the tower. The cord probably has 2 different ends, and the smaller end plugs into the camera, and the larger, flatter end plugs into what is called a USB port. Most computers have 2 or 3 ports you can stick it into. Some have one on the back of the keyboard. A few have them on the back of the monitor, but almost all have them somewhere on the tower. Sometimes they are behind a little flap. We will get this figured out!

I take the lil card out of my camera and put it in my printer... do you have a slot in the printer for memory cards?

If not.. I am not too good at figuring it out.. but I can tell you that you need to create a folder.. name it something you won't forget.. Put it on your desktop if you have to.. Or in "my documents" so you will know where it is.. Then you save your pics in that folder for use later..
When you click on "browse", there is a drop down box that is inside that window that comes up after you click on browse.... you travel around until you get to "my doucments" or "desktop" (where ever you created that folder above) find the pic... click on "okay" and then click on "preview" to see if that is the pic you wanted!

I'm so tickled that you are on the computer in your 70's My mom was online till she was 93.. she just quit 2 years ago..:)

I hope this helps and is not too confusing.. I would come over and show you if I could.. It's soooo fun to share pics! You can dmail me if you want.. I'll do whatever I can to help.

We sell eggs at the Farmers Market which starts in early May. These girls should be laying like crazy by then.
We bought them from Hoovers Hatchery in Rudd, IA. They all hatched the morning of October 1.

Hey there Mox: Sorry I did not connect with you last night. Wife went shopping. She gave me her cord hook up and it is three pronged. The flat end goes into the camera, the other end has two prongs that are round like tv or cassette hook ups. Now it's Thanksgiving so I don't expect you to answer this any time soon, but will monitor my computer to see where those two ends go into the tower (my forgotten word) Thank you so much for your help and yes ( now you are my daughter also) Just inform your father he'll have to share. P.S. When my wife got up this morning she found another new baby running around. WoooooHoooooo. Haystack.

Hi ZZ'S Oh No Here I go again, showing my ignorance. What is D-Mail and how do yu do it. I'am laughing so hard right now because I am airing out all ignorance for the Daves family to laugh at. Ok have a field day on me, I can take it, Oh my! my face is feeling really flush about now. I knew eventually you guy's would expose me. Thank you so much for jumping into my dilema. Can you see my hand reaching out. Say yes even if you can't. Happy thanksgiving to you ZZ's Stay safe. Haystack

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Haystack.. there is absolutely NOTHING to be embarrassed about. NO ONE on here was born knowing how to do this.. We ALL had to learn.. maby some of us got to learn in private, but there is NO shame in being exposed.. none whatsoever. There is only shame in thinking you know everything and not seeking further knowledge.. At least in my eyes! :)

I sent you a private Dmail and will coach you as much as you like. Before you know it, I'll have you building a website!

Ferndale, WA

Thanks again ZZ's But what is a D-Mail and how do i retrive it? Haystack.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Look at the top of your home page and you will see "mail" when you have one it will let you know and when you wish to send one tape on it and it will take you where you can do your D-mail with is like a e-mail

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Yeah.. at the top of your screen it should say You have 1 new Mail If you click on that, it will take you to the mail inbox. Then you click on the title to get the Dmail to open... Then it looks just like these posts kinda! At the bottom you can reply.

Social Circle, GA(Zone 8a)

Look at the Pumpkins on top. Below that are tabs, and below them, is a blue bar that goes across with the options "| Post a reply | Search | F.A.Q. | My Info | Mail | Logout | "

Click the you have 1 new mail as ZZ says! Dmail is Dave's Garden Mail. Just mail between users here.

Congratulations.... I selfishly just wanna see pics! ;)

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

OK, here I am saying I'm gonna help, but I have never heard of a camera cable that plugs into the computer that has 2 prongs to it....that sounds like one that plugs into a TV or a DVD player so you can view your photos direct on the TV. That is cool, but it's not what we need for hooking up to a computer. There should have been a cable with the camera that looked something like this....

There are two cables in this pic - a white one and a black one. The white one is positioned to show you the sides of the plugs, and I'm holding the ends of the black one up so you can see how the plugs look from the end. The cable you have probably has a plug that looks like the smaller of the two ends that is plugging into the camera. The other flatter larger side is the USB plug that goes into your tower. Do you think you have such a cable in the packaging with the camera?
