Yes I know....Tops has it http://toptropicals.com/catalog/uid/kailarsenia_lineata.htm but (choke) almost $50 (no offense to Tops - they're one of my favorite sites)!! Anyone with any thoughts, opinions on this plant???? How about some place else to find it???
ISO: Kailarsenia lineata
That's the only place I've ever seen it--I was tempted by it too but it's so expensive for them to ship things here, plus it's related to gardenias and they don't like my climate too much and the last thing I want is to kill a $50 plant!
Amen...I've been very lucky to find plants that run $15+ with them....thru trades or else where (lesser known vendors) much cheaper. Example: Maid of Orleans is $14.95/1 gal size. In Williamsburg, VA there's a place known as The Pottery there. The last 2 years they've had Maid of Orleans 4-6" pot size for around $6
Ahhh, Samantha, you're good!! Tops states: "Flowers look similar to gardenia vientamensis when fully open" Nope - have neither...I have a history of killing Gardenias that are in pots - although the Tahitian Gardenia (a plant that was given to me - my seeds did nothing...so sad) is thriving so maybe I've gotten better about that. ^_^
I confess I paid $50 for my Vietnamese Gardenia. I love it and I have propagated 2 seedlings from it last year. BUT......I admit I don't have to pay shipping for my must-haves.......
The leaves on Kailarsenia lineata are very different from G. vietnamensis and is a family I am not familiar with. It looks great, though!
Anyone who wants a G. vietnamensis, let me know~ however, I am "trying" not to initiate trade or other until next spring and after I catch up with some other trades I owe.
You know me...happy to adopt one from either you or Samantha....will start rooting various babies once spring starts for trades. $50??? OMG!!! Goosebumps as I type
