Being a 'newbie', I had to be led to this forum by some nice Texas folks. Thank you for that!
I did an intro today in the welcome to Dave's forum, but since I found my way home, I thought I would introduce myself here.
I found DG while trying to ID some plants-successfully!
Moved to Dike, Texas 5 months ago, from Houston and I'm Lovin' it out here in the sticks. Right now we're clearing stuff out but don't want to do too much so we can get an idea of what the seasons are going to be like. All of the land here is in it's natural state and it's mainly hardwood trees. Next spring we will begin our garden scheme and we are planning on keeping everything native other than a veggie and herb garden. It will be a work in progress, probably for years. I have a lot to learn, so you'll probably be hearing from me quite abit!~
Here's a recent pic showing our wooded driveway.
Finding my way home
Beautiful! And I'm so envious! But welcome home and enjoy yourself. You'll be able to watch that land as spring wildflowers start doing their thing next year....nothing like that, you know. And such a great idea to do veggies and herbs! Keep us posted, take lots of pictures!
Welcome, allwild. That's a beautiful photo - I'm sure you'll love it! I'm not familiar with your town, but it looks like you're in the Piney Woods or the Big Thicket? Your gardening idea of natives and veggies and herbs sounds wonderful. Linda's right about the wildflowers - that will be a fun change of pace from Houston. There are a lot of native lovers here, so you'll find great info as I have. Linda's one of them!
Welcome to the Texas forum! I'm glad you started a thread here. There are a bunch of wonderful folks in here who know a lot about native plants. I'm sure you'll find them a great help in your new gardens! :-)
Allwild, that is a beautiful picture, I love native plants and wildflowers, and so do a lot of other people.
Welcome to the Texas forum, have fun.
Josephine.
Thank you for all of your down-home welcomes. I think it's considered part of the Post Oak Savannah here where I am. We do have quite a bit of oaks here, and hickory trees.
I am definitely looking forward to all the surprises that springtime brings! And I look forward to all the beautiful gardens and stories here for inspiration. It's so nice to have found a bunch of fellow nature lovers!!! And thanks again marylyn_TX, for helping me get to this forum!
A belated welcome to NE Texas and Dave's. I'm a fairly recent transplant to NE Tx as well, (and to Dave's Garden) but I came from the north rather than the south. I love the photo you posted! Previous to being a Tx transplant I was a country to the city transplant. I'm so happy to be out in the country again! Each day after work I can hardly wait to get home and walk around the lot we have to see what is new. I'm sure you are having the same experience. My brain is full of new ideas and where and how to implement them. I'm mostly a learner here on the Dave's sight but I love to see the photos and can't wait to see what's new here at Daves' as well. Good luck with your new adventures in Dike, TX! I can't find Dike on the Texas map, but then again you probably can't find Grit either (that's technically where I live).
Wow! Bet you pinch yourself when you wake up. Welcome.
That's funny antiquedrose, because that's what I tell the folks back in Houston :)
No, not sure where Grit is? LOL. I'm about 25 miles northeast of Sulphur Springs.
Thanks for the welcomes...I really really am looking forward to my new adventures in Dike AND at The Texas gardening forum!! I'm crazy about wildflowers, natives, and enjoy medicinal herbs, folklore and just the old fashioned ways in general. See you all around!
