November flower slideshow

Oakland, CA(Zone 9b)

I don't often create slideshows and had some trouble with PBucket's new setup - couldn't add any titles to individual slides, so I apologize for the many 'anonymous' photos. These photos were taken this afternoon, Nov. 19th, in the Oakland hills area of Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area.

Our weather has been very erratic this year: hot/cold/hot/cold, so there is a lot of overlap in bloom. Some things are just hanging on - liriope, a last 'Tropicanna' canna bloom leaning on an erysimum shrub, hibiscus. Others are just starting again - nasturtiums, calla lilies, narcissus and passiflora vines.

This slideshow is modestly sized, but there are 33 photos in it so it will take a bit to cycle through it all. If you want to stop at any image, leave your cursor in the lower RH corner of the slideshow and it will bring up the button bar. Hope you enjoy it!

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

Thank you for sharing , a very nice array of blooms , when it is rather cold and brown here.

Beautiful garden pics! My Mom and I were driving around some Oakland neighborhoods last Friday checking out gardens and neat houses and then went to our favorite nursery there, Longs and then Ace hardware on Grand. Would have loved to have seen yours!

You may want to check into the free Picasa Album program, very easy to use, easy to add titles and info etc., and just a cleaner looking site. I love watching pictures in the Slideshow mode, the timing can be adjusted for that too. Here's a quick album I just threw together so you can see how it looks.

Sue, thanks for the tip! Picasa does look easier, so I may try giving it a shot soon.

If you were just at the Long's and Grand Ave. Ace, you were almost exactly 7 min from my house! Next time, shoot me an d-mail and I will be happy to welcome you and your mom with a cup of coffee or tea! I live right above Mills College near the interchange of Hwys 580 and 13.

I love your pix too - how is your garden doing? I'm doing a lot of planting, because a dozen or so plants didn't survive the summer drought so I'm redoing parts of certain beds.

Lots of potting up into larger pots for later spring planting, as usual, my garden is ever evolving and I have some plans to move things around.

Nest time I go up there, I'll let you know.

San Francisco Bay Ar, CA(Zone 9b)

Lovely gardens! I am always curious about what people are growing around here :-).

Marietta, GA(Zone 7b)

Love it :)

Fayette, MO(Zone 6a)

Wonderful flowers. I love it when someone takes the time to take pictures and post them especially this time of year when I have time to really set down and enjoy them. Your pelargoniums are lovely. Do you bring them inside for the winter?

Oakland, CA(Zone 9b)

No, here in coastal Northern CA, pelargoniums will survive in the ground, evergreen. Really nippy frosts will damage them a little, but they recover quickly. The soil never freezes here. I've noticed the fancy-leaf hybrid "Vancouver Bicentennal" is more demanding than the usual rounder-leafed types, though: needs more water in summer and more protection in winter.

Fayette, MO(Zone 6a)

The only pelargonium that I have is Vancouver Centennial.. Love the color of the leaves and I'm trying to get it through the winter in my small GH.. It isn't doing too bad.

How neat to keep them all year and just keep enjoying them.
