Caldwell nursery???

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

I'm making my Christmas list and am putting fruit trees on it ...ie apple, peaches, pears
My folks live in Illinois so I am suppose to find where I can get these things at a decent price not a fortune
I came across Caldwell's in Houston area anyone been there and had any dealings with them

yes I know I can look in the reviews but I was hoping for more personal views.
as I am going to in the Houston are this weekend

Be sure and ask how old the trees are in their 5 gallon containers, if they're not over a year old you'd get a better price using Bob Wells. Harris's usually has good fruit tree sale prices at the end of the year too.

Edited, Both places are stops on my errand list Saturday. If you want me to check for a variety or price, lmk.

well the pices at caldwells was around 15-29...but I am still checking around LOL

I couldn't find anywhere on their site where it lists the age of their trees. If they're 2-3 years old, those are good prices, but I can't imagine a 3 year old tree in 5 gallon pot.

I think I am going to call them here in a few and see what they say then call wells too and see what info they give me as om says I have a few days yet and I rally have no idea what to tell her other wise for x-mas gifts for me LOL

Let me know what you find out. I'm not sure if I'm going to purchase anything this weekend or not. I'm hoping Bob Well's has even cheaper prices on bare roots. But none of my trees are dormant yet and I don't know if theirs are either. I'll keep notes on price/size/age and let you know:0)

Caydee at Caldwell's is very nice and helpful. If you stop in tell her hi from me!!

well I called them today Wells that is and he said they don't have alot of bare root fruit trees dig yet but he recommended getting the ones in the "pots" as they have already grown into the soil they are in and that gives them a better start when planted int eh ground and the ones in the pots are guaranteed to grow in the spring.
fruit trees are around $25. a pot
Pecam trees he said would be okay bare root though as they have a very deep root system but they are $40.

Marie will do if I stop by.

I went to BW's. It was so cold and cloudy they were closed. I called from the parking lot to ask about hours and they said to wait and someone would drive over and meet me. I felt so guilty I had to buy something.lol
I had a list on me that I had made from their web site, most of the trees listed on the site are 21.50. The site is out dated and indeed most trees now are 25.00. He gave me a discount on some of the trees to make up for the old site prices and things they did not have in stock.

He said too he would give me a good price on a new strawberry cultivar they are going to carry next year called Chandlers, it supposed to be a really great berry for our area.

Did you make it to Caldwell's? Your seeds are on the white shelf in the garage :0)

Nope haven't made it anyplace then from downtown my minute maid park out to her apartment just inside the Humble limit to walmart, the mall to sears to get a flat tire fixed , and a couiple other stores to pick up odds and ends she needed. will have to look and see how far it is from where we are to see if it will be a place to stop by on the way back up or just stay with BW instead since they are closer to home.

mmmmm strawberries ...I can enlarge my patch since I moved the greenhouse LOL

got ya on the seeds ...will grab them off the shelve when I get home tomorrow or ask him what he did with them if they aren't there LOL
