Fading colors

Lubbock, TX

My mother "discovered" Bromeliads this summer. The colors on them are turning from maroon to brown. Can you tell me what that means? I grow cacti and know next to nothing about these plants except that the pineapple is one.

Your plant may be aging, and as it gets older it loses it's colour,
OR, it might need a little more light to keep it maroon,
OR if you fertilised it, it will tend to go olivey brown in the foliage.

So, If its getting older, look out for a pup (offsets)
if its in quite heavy shade, move it to a morning sun position, but NO direct midday sun,
and don't fertilise it, unless you want more offsets, in which case you will have to sacrafice the colour.

good luck
Sue
