plant food for begonias

Lilburn, GA

Hi,

I have been reading the sitckies looking for plant foods that suit begonias. One site mentioned 15-30-15 when talking about show plants.

What fertilizer should i use on my begonias? should I change brands or numbers during different seasons?

At the moment I am using Schultz houseplant liquid fertilizer. Are there better ones?

Thank you.:o)

15-30-15 is good for promoting flowering, so use this one during your begonia's normal flowering season. Back off on this one during your plant's natural resting (non-blooming) phase. During periods of active growth you can supplement the liquid fertilizer with a slow-release (Osmocote) type. If you follow this routine periodically flush the soil with lots of water so you avoid having fertilizer salts build up in the soil. If you happen to be growing your begonias in a terrarium do not use any non-organic fertilizer as there is no easy way to flush accumulated salts out of the soil. For my terrarium plants that need a little pick-me-up I use liquid fish emulsion applied as a foliar spray. Neptune's Harvest is one brand.
