Looks good, Herbie! I had one that was clear plastic and the sun just ate it up, but I did leave it out year round for probably 2 years. I've gotten another little one (I'll try to find a link) that I only plan to put out for seedlings in February. Let us know how this one does -- it's a great price if the plastic holds up.

This is the one I had, though this is not where I got it. I was very happy with it, until I hit the ceiling with the blunt end of a hoe and it shattered. My fault for having left it out in Texas through the summer!

thats look great.

what kind of temps is it good for? how early in 5b would you be able to get seeds started in that?

would I want that for seed starting? they'd get too leggy, wouldn't they?

Herb,
Check out these as well:

It appears that the Greenhouse Mega store mentioned above has cheaper prices than Flowerhouses for the same products and offers free shipping as well!
Years ago I bought a tabletop greenhouse which needs replacing. I like the looks of the Planthouse Portable Greenhouse which can be set on a table (I have a used pallet set on wooden horses). I haven't decided whether the 3 ft or 4 ft will fit. Must measure tomorrow. My old one held a lot of new plants and saved my back. It obviously doesn't hold as much as the 3 or 4 tier but will be tall enough to hold the tomato, pepper and eggplants till they are ready for planting. Some of those seedlings get pretty tall and in the 3-4 tier greenhouses you have to remove shelves to accommodate the height. The tiered greenhouses are great for flats with lower growing plants or starting seedlings.
A walk-in would be nice but then you have to buy the racks which would be close to what Herbie mentions in the first posting. But I do like the one you had, Brigidlilly. I especially like the fact that these portable ones come with shade cloth. That is REALLY handy when it gets hot! So thanks for these links, Brigidlilly and Tommyr!

Indy, you will probably find that the one you are looking at would be good in your Zone from April on outdoors for hardening off some plants. I find that starting seedlings is better on a tiered type of shelving indoors under lights. I agree they could get leggy if grown without or just in the sun. I have had luck starting fast growing annuals like zinnias outside in my greenhouse. But I start those later in May or early June when it is warmer here.

thanks for both of those web sites. for the tme being i will stick with the little mini i have. i think it will suit my purposes just right. i can start my seeds in it and then when i repot my tomato plants i hope i can put the mini outside so that they (the tomato plants) can grow where its a little colder.

You will love your mini and it will do exactly as you wish. Does it have split shelving (2 shelves per level) so you can remove one half for the taller plants? One of mine does, and it's very handy!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Ah, hardening off. Thanks for the reminder, gardadore. I get so excited that I'm likely to rush those little seedlings from inside to garden in one fell swoop. Gotta remember to ease them into the new environment.

Rutland , MA(Zone 5b)

gardadore - i wish i had that feature. just havethe 4r shelves but i can emove any shelf if i wnt to give more room for taller plants.

while i'm hee i have a question to ask. i have been gardening for over 20 years and seeding starting for last 15 of them. in the past i used the seed starting mixl when i started my seeds and also whenever i repotted them. when i planted them out in my containers i would use MG potting soil for containers.

last season, i started them the same way with seed starting mix
but when it came time to repot them i used the MG potting soil. i was happy with the results. how do you folks do it?? thanks

HERBIE43 - If I may chime in here, This year I started all my seeds in coco coir and then transplanted them in the same. The results are spectacular.

Hi Herbie ( you night owl)

I feed a weak solutiion of my 10-8-22(and epsom salt) everytime I water. Plants need to eat just like we do.(as I have been told). They respond to it nicely.
