I have a limited supply of cuttings from the following rhipsalis varieties, in some cases, very limited. I put this list together to work on another trade (not for rhips), which takes priority. However, I am hoping to obtain a few other types of rhipsalis to expand my collection before the cold weather sets in. If you have a rhipsalis that does not appear on this list that you would be able to trade, please dmail me or post interest here. I added some links to pics for some of them. I put some items on this list that I will be unable to trade at this time, so you will know what I already have.
R. lindbergiana
R. rauhiorum (not for trade at this time - too small)
R. paradoxa ssp septenrionalis (paradoxa dwarf)
R. unknown (1/2" stems with 4 ridges running the length of the stems) (probably pentaptera but lost tag)
R. pacheo-leonis catenulata - this one needs to be in a hanging pot and is quite nice)
R. capilliformis (normal form)
R. capilliformis (variant that has long thin stems with few branchings - a pot full looks like it has long green hair)
R. trigona
R. prismatica
R. horrida
R. sp kartuz
R. marnierana
R. mesembryanthemoides
Hatoria salicornides
R. teres heteroclada
R. baccifera
R. unknown (mislteltoe cactus) (this is probably a form of baccifera, but has longer stems than the other. It blooms prolifically then keeps the white seed pods on for years so this one also has seed pods showing - this was not ID'd when I bought it)
R. cruciforme spiralis (recently acquired cutting - cannot trade at this time
R. pilocarpa - blooming now
R. tucumanesis (recently acquired cutting - cannot trade at this time)
edited to remove the hyperlinks, which were not working and could not be fixed. If you go to rhipsalis .com and search for the name, you will find some nice pics of most of these.

Have: rhipsalis cuttings
Are you only trading for other rhipsalis?
That is what I'd prefer.
ok, I understand! ^_^
I am a rhipsalis addict, and would LOVE to trade with you, but, right now they are all in my overcrowded greenhouse. Its a pain to even walk into the greenhouse its so crowded. I had a nice huge greenhouse, and a tornado went through and destroyed it last spring. I bought a MUCH smaller one temporarilly, and its WAYYYYY to small. Anyways, my point is, if you would be interested in trading in the spring when I can get to them, I would love to. I'm not even sure what the names are until I can get to them better though.
lismil, That would be great. However, for me, the spring is not the best time to trade them as they are very cramped here and don't get the best of care. I only have a few bright windows that a lot of plants have to share. As a result, I get some die back and some need extra care when the weather warms up. Still, I would also love to trade and should have most of them in decent shape quickly. Just might not have the same selection and options.
I'm curious, how do you keep them watered? Do you just water the whole greenhouse?
Hope you don't mind but if there are other trades that crop up, I will also pursue them.
all my plants do best if I either don't water all winter, or only water a couple times. My greenhouse is very humid, and condensation builds up on the roof and sides, and then drips. I think they like it this way, cause they thrive like crazy this way. I only have them in the greenhouse durring the cold months, then move them outside. If I do have to water, then yes, Ill water the whole greenhouse. Like I said...this is my first year with my small cramped greenhouse, but it dosent look like they will need watered. I miss my big greenhouse, cause my favorite thing to do in the winter is sit in my heated greenhouse admiring the plants and feeling like Im outside and warm even though its cold. 8-( Im hoping to build a big one again this summer, but...my BF leaves for either Iraq or afganistan in april, so he wont be here to help me.
P.S. I just noticed you are in PA......I grew up on the NY PA border. I have noticed that tropicals grow soooooooo much better here. I believe its the humidity. I wonder if maybe you wouldnt have so much die back if you misted in the winter, as I know the air there is quite dry in the winter.
My house is an older one and horribly dry in the winter time (forced air heat). I run a humidifier in the bedroom and use the plants to help with this as well. However, the air just sucks the moisture out of everything. I have found that if I do not water regularly, then by late February, even the succulents and cacti are having problems.
Please be careful with your new green house. Being smaller, its environment may be different through he winter than you expect. I'd hate to lose the prospect of trading for a nice rhip :( A local nursery has a large glass house with a table set in the middle of it. The staff goes to the table in the winter to have their lunch. I've been known to just go there and sit for 10 or 15 minutes to take in the atmosphere. There is something about being surrounded by a lot of plants that is just so peaceful - similar but not the same to be floating in a large warm empty pool (no waves) with your eyes closed and just **totally** relaxing.
You are so right that is exactly the feeling.
I agree..plants=peace and calm.
hi i have quite a few diff rhips are u still wanting to swap cuttings if so i will make a list and ru interested in other plants which look like rhips thx bruce
Bruce, Yes, I am still interested and would love to hear what you have. It might still be possible to trade cuttings this year, with some risk, by coordinating carefully with the weather. However, we might have to wait until the spring as we are moving into average daily temps below freezing here. (Today it will go to about 39, and drop to about 32 as rain moves in, but will be below freezing by tomorrow night) Most rhips should be ok with brief exposures to cold as long as they do not freeze. I have some small cryopaks that I can use as well for insurance.
Please send me your list or post it.
Thanks
Rhipsalis
r. ceroides
r. houllentiana
r. rhombea
r. callosformis
r. mesemblyanthamoides
r. grandifolia
r. red…that’s all the tag says it has flat red leaves
selenicifous conlhoides
k now i have a list to save..lol
most of the plants i have i have aquired in the last year and none are huge but i can spare some cuttings. i have not looked any of them up but most were from collectors so i have no reason to doubt their names. i have insulated boxes and 72 hour heat pack. send me a dmail and we can see what we can do thanks bruce
Bruce, You have d-mail
Bruce, I'm going to post some info here regarding your posted rhips, in case anybody else is watching or interested in trading with you. The rhipsalis have been very difficult to id and keep names straight as even the scientific experts don't appear to be in agreement. But as my collection grows, an outgrowth of the interest is an effort to id them as best I can. In looking over the names you posted I found some interesting things to share.
My sources are www.rhipsalis.com (nice pics and info about id'ing) and epiforums.com (some nice pics and limited info about rhips).
R. ceroides (have this one)
R. houllentania - Now called Lepismium houlletanium (don't have, note spelling difference as well)
R. rhombea - This name can apparently is being used inconsistently and has been applied to 5 different species of rhipsalis (I don't have it but have a small start of pachyptera, one of the five species)
R. callosformis - This one is tough - Perhaps the tag is faded and hard to read. Could this one be capilliformis? There is also a retired name calamiformis which was a synonym for R. grandiflora
R. mesemblyanthamoides - name slightly misspelled - should be mesembryanthemoides - This one is a neat rhip and easy to ID.
R. grandifolia - probably misspelled "grandiflora". I do not have grandiflora.
R. red - There is a rhip called Rivero's Red noted for its red color. You might want to seek out pics of this one and compare - I had this once but lost it.
Hi Krowten, I know its been a long time getting back to you about the potential trade and I am sorry. Thanksgiving holidays and the aftermath took their toll (we were gone a week out of state).
In researching your list, I actually found out that I had most of them already, but I never had them labeled.
That's Ok - Did a small trade with funnyfarmherbs (he has some nice ones) and since winter has set in, will need to wait for the spring fro further trades.
