My rabbit has stoped eating

Coushatta, LA

My one year old Dutch doe has stoped eating her food. Can anyone help?

(Zone 7b)

Is she haveing regular bowel movements?

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

good question. My first guess is stomach problems. It is really better to take him to the vet ASAP. That way he can treat him immediately if he has some kind of blockage. Bunnies don't die from stomach problems, what they die from is untreated/unattended stomach problems.

Here's a site dealing with constipation and tummy problems http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&A=484

Cowpea hows your rabbit doing?

Coushatta, LA

Well Harmonyplace I read your link and gave her some clover flowers and dock leaves and some younge buttercrunch lettuce and she ate lots of those greens and a little timothy hay.I can't take her to vet because it's to expensive and the vets tell me just to hit her in the head and get another one.

Yes i know about vets being expensive it used to be where you could take and animal and just get it treated. Now there's monthly physicals and all sorts of test and things i asked a vet about flea's and she said a name brand drops. When i ask how much she said $50 and i said no thanks i got some shampoo at Wmt. for $3 give them a bath about twice a month and no fleas.
I get just about everything i use on my animals from walmart or the feed store i even gave my dogs their own shots and saved a bunch.
My 2 big dogs are outside dogs and they get little boo boos all the time a little peroxide and neosporin and they are good to go.

I'm so sorry too. I have two rabbits and they are really much more interesting and loving than people think.

Coushatta, LA

Yes they are! They are quite and don't bother the anyone.I have a lot of them.I just had doe Mini Lop have a litter of five babies.

I'm so sorry about your Maggie. I had a litter box trained group of rabbits growing up that lived in the house mostly(until they found they liked chewing phone cords). But they were more friendly than my childhood dog!

If my vet told me to hit my animal in the head when I called for help....I think I'd get a new vet. But I know people who have trouble even finding one reasonably nearby at all.

My vets treat ALL my animals when they come out twice a year or more often if I need them. They make sure that I know what they need, and I LEARN how to treat a lot of basic ailments that I won't need them for next time in those cases.

I think I may be lucky though that I have such a good group so close by and so reasonable. I've brought a feral stray in the middle of Sunday night before with most of her litter after I'd caught her unknowingly in the midst of a break from delivery.

I have a vet like that too, Jenks. But she took time to find.

On Emergency Vets they treated a rabbit with serious constipation by feeding it canned pumpkin. Apparently it has a lot of fiber and rabbits like it. I guess rabbits have a tendency to eat inappropriate things like towels and blankets?

Same remedy for dogs I think?

My rabbits did best out in the hutch my dad made. Bred like rabbits as they say! ;) I still adored them!

So sorry to hear that Cowpea. I know it's hard to take.

Another thing that will help with blockages in rabbits is fresh pinapple. HAS to be fresh, not canned. There is an enzme in the pinapple that will break down organic matter and make it easier for the rabbit to pass inappropriate things they may have eaten or to help break down organic blockages.

My Mini Lop just had five babies and so did my lilac Netherland Dwarf.

I am so sorry about Maggie. It is sad to loose any of them! They are so cuddly.
We always had bunnies. I cant now though. My DD is allergic. She has asthma.
But I do love them. Now only from a distance.
When you get a camera, I would love to see your pics! hugs from your DG friend

My rabbit stopped eating as well and became bones, I finally figured out his teeth were so long, he couldnt eat at all. I felt bad when I found this out. I had his teeth trimmed and he has finally put on weight again. I cant believe how fast the teeth grow.

Hughesville, MO(Zone 5a)

Rodents like rabbits need hard things to chew on to keep their teeth worn down.

Grants Pass, OR

What would be good things for him to chew on, I bought those natural chews for rabbits.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

deer antlers great for them to chew one..
