Winter care for Crinum in zone 6

Chevy Chase, MD(Zone 7a)

I have a Crinum (maybe Red-leaf Giant Crinum) in a pot, in zone 6b. I know it can't survive the winter outside in my zone. Last year I put it on a windowsill indoors and it did fine. But I'd prefer to stick it in the garage because it is ungainly -- so it would be held a about 40 - 50 degrees, dark and with no watering for the next 5 months. Alternately I could put it in a closet -- so about 70 degrees, dark and with no watering. Has anyone tried either of these? Will it survive a period of winter dormancy?

You know you can just cut off all the leaves and let them re-grow in the spring. I would think in the garage would be fine, maybe a sprinkling of water here and there.
No personal experience since I am zone 10 and they stay outside here.

Thanks, Dutchlady! Not everything will accept "garage" treatment, so I'd love to find someone who has tried it!
