About 6 weeks ago I promised to let everyone know when I was going to cut back my No-ID Streptocarpella basket. Well, it's time. It's been in the house a couple of weeks and is about 3 feet across. It has got to go!!! It takes up completely too much room. Everyone is welcome to cuttings, just d-mail me your addy. I plan on sending them all out on Monday Nov. 17th if everything works out.

Cuttings Anyone?
I usually don't care for Streptocarpella because I've found them to be 'messy' after they bloom...but that color is *irresistible*!
If you have enough AFTER you send to those who requested first on the other thread, I wouldn't mind a couple....please do send to them first, though.
I could paypal you the postage.....and first class would be fine as long as wrapped in a couple layers of newspaper.
Roxanne,
I have what I think is the same unidentified Streptocarpella. It grew about 3 feet wide hanging in a basket under my Maple tree this year.I just started cutting it back today and by the time I was finished,I have nothing left but a 14 inch pot of stems with a few baby green leaves.(I kept a few cuttings of course ^_^).I'm hoping it will come back.I had neglected it to the point that most of the stems had become very woody. It's been so long since I grew any Gessies, all I could find were razor blades that had rusted 10 years ago,LOL,so I had to use a knife to trim the cuttings.I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Hello Everyone!
I've been MIA for almost 2 months now. My mother has been in and out of the Hospital 3 times since the middle of November.....then the holidays......then my son visited from Seattle....then the Inauguration......well you get the picture.
What I wanted to say is: I haven't forgotten my promise to send cuttings out of this plant. We had a surprise cold snap this fall before I got it inside and I was afraid I was going to lose it. I've been nursing it along all winter, and as soon as the weather warms up will be sending out the cuttings I promised. Everyone who D-mailed me is in a special folder called "I promised cuttings".
Hope everyone is having a tolerable winter. We are having such a crazy year around here. Unusually cold in November.....warm and nice(tee shirt weather as I call it) in December, and Jan. Lots of my garden plants were growing nicely, thinking it was spring, then last week we had some teen nights and everything is mush.....hope they come back when the real spring gets here. LOL
Just popping in to say Hi to you Roxanne,Sorry to hear your Mom has been sick.
Hi Roxanne! I was wondering where you were.
these plants usually come back very nicely. i have a couple,so don't give up on them.

Thanks Jannich.... It wouldn't be so bad if she lived closer. She moved back home to Illinois to be close to her brothers and sisters. I've been driving to visit her, it's cheaper and quicker. Last time I tried to fly to Illinois in the winter it took me 3 days!!!!
Goldleaf....I've missed the group, but haven't had time to check in, just been busy, busy, busy!!!
MrsBonnie....I'm hoping it doesn't get any smaller.....it seems to just keep shrinking. I don't really have a place to put it and it is starved for some light.
Roxanne--how about splitting it into several small plants--repotting in smaller pots so you can get them in the window? They will really start perking up in a month or so, and once the weather warms--will grow like weeds. Don't forget to trim the roots. My experience is that they can look like they are dying by the end of winter, but come back readily in spring.
Roxanne, sorry to hear about your Mom, but we are so glad to have you back! We miss you terribly and this forum benefits greatly from having you around.

So glad you are back! I am sorry about your mom being ill.
Winter at my house has been perfect. In fact, I have a bad back today from working in the flower beds too much. I have to see my physical therapist today or tomorrow. I am waiting for a call back! Gorgeous outside, but I certainly won't be working hard for a few days. I love to be outside, trimming etc.
Roxanne, I'm sorry to hear about your Mom. She's been added to my prayer list.
I hope that by now, she is on her way to full recovery.
Eileen
