I received some great brug cuttings yesterday from a wonderful DGer, and have a question about temperature. I have them in some orchid moss as described in http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/575527/. I don't have a specific place for rooting cuttings, so they're on my kitchen counter under the cabinet lights. The soil temp goes between 78 - 80 degrees. The temps may be low since the countertop is granite. I think I'll put the cups on several sheets of paper to insulate them some from the granite.
Is this temp OK or does it need to be higher?

Brug Cuttings & temps
I have a few on the counter out of the sun and they are doing well.. Yours should be fine.. Just keep the water fresh and check for decomp...

When rooting brug cuttings, am I best to put them in a warm room in the house or a cool room? The temps in my rooms have drastic differences because I heat with a wood stove. I can put them in a room that is very hot all of the time or get as far away from the stove as possible and have them in a room that is always in the 60's. I am not interested in real rapid plant growth too early in winter but do want them to get established so they can go outside in the spring.
I keep our home at about 68*F .. either place should be fine.. The water is the most important thing.. Has to stay clean.. Not all Brug cuttings are created equal..LOL some root very easy and others can be little Brats...I have had some get nubbies in 3~4 days and others sit there for over a month and still not have any..
Thanks Kylie. I have my first cuttings and want to be as successful as possible. Would hate to lose them just because I put them in the worng room LOL. I thought about separating them into different rooms but fear I may forget to change water in all of them if I did. It would be easier to have them in one of the plant rooms.
So glad someone asked these questions...I've been wondering about household temps myself....
I have been searching and reading and temps are frequently mentioned but I could not find anything that said definitevely whether warm or cold made a difference for rooting cuttings.
I have my 19 cuttings on a folding table by a sunny window. They are under florescent lights in the a.m. and p.m. getting sunlight from 11-4. Our house temp is about 68*. Now by the window it may actually be a littler cooler. They are doing fine. But I don't move them. I think they adjust.
Kylie is right about nubbie and root times. Some just take off and others linger. I am so new at this I am just glad when I see new leaves or the stalk staying green and not withering. Good luck and try not to stress over them. (I'm one to talk. I go and see mine several times a day and ask them how they are doing). :)
I know that everything that I grow enjoys the attention when I stop by and ask how they are doing. Keep up the good work.
