New member needs seeds......

Brooklet, GA(Zone 8a)

No, not me. I received a email from mystrique asking for seeds. It said he is new to gardening and has just joined daves. I told him to send me his addy and I would send him some seeds. He has none to trade yet but I thought it would be neat to give him a great big daves welcome with some seed offers. He lives in Malaysia. Janet

Are there any restrictions in his country or our own as to sending seeds?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I know he did say he didn't have much room to grow things.

Oklahoma City, OK(Zone 7a)

If he doesn't have much room to grow things, why is he contacting soooo many people for seeds?

Hi there,

Thank you for replying my email and the information
about swapping seeds.

I just want to try this kind of activities because
there were none in my country. If my attempt succeed
then I can promote it to my friend and to others.

I'm interested in growing flowers or houseplant in
pots/container. Do you have any? I can afford the
postage if it is not too expensive.

Thanks again. :)

send him my tradelist addy please!http://www.angelfire.com/grrl/lilith

Gilmer, TX

Is this the man who wanted to start a neighborhood garden? If so I sent him my list but have heard nothing back yet. can't remember the name and it got deleted, so I'll have to wait for his reply.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Janet, could you get him to post here and clarify? This is what he said to me:
"I would like flower seeds, but I'm not sure what type.
You can just send me anything, I will accept it and
try to grow them. But I hope you send plant which is
small in size, because I don't have much space to
grow. :)"
I would much rather send some really special seeds if he only has a little room, instead of sending a lot of commons. Anyone know the climate and what might grow there? Stumped on this one, I have no idea what the growing conditions are.

WOW!

Now that what the 'Great Big Dave Welcome' means... :)
I'm sorry because I'm new in this group and don't know much about gardening...

Firstly I would like to apologive if my request seems like spamming to you all and mind my English because I'm not very fluent with it... :)

The reason why I starting mailing lots of people is because in my home country it is hard to find people who like to share their gardening knowledge and I think they don't believe in seeds swapping. The Internet is the only choice I can meet people who share the same interest with me. Hope my explaination can clears the doubt. OK?

I would like flower seeds which can grow in small pots because I live in a rented house with my friends.

I dont know about restriction for sending seeds to my country. I'll try to check it out.

By the way, I've started planting 'Asparagus Plumosus' for about three weeks and now the seeds are starting to grow with little shoots coming out from the soil. So cute. :)

Thank you all for supporting me. This page will be my first page I open every day... :)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I certainly didn't think of it as spamming, I asked for you to write me:) I'm glad you finally posted!!! Now I know that potted plants would be better, but I still dont' really know about your growing conditions, can you equate to something in the US zones? or give me an idea what your summers and winters are like? I'm sure I'll find something fabulous in my seed box for you:)

Taken from http://www.kjc.gov.my/people/klim/climatem.htm

The characteristic features of the climate of Malaysia are
uniform temperature, high humidity and copious rainfall and they arise mainly from the maritime exposure of the country. Winds are generally light. Situated at the equatorial oldrum area, it is extremely rare to have a full day with completely clear sky even in periods of severe drought. On the other hand, it is also rare to have a stretch of a few days with completely no sunshine except during the northeast monsoon seasons.

Temperature Distribution
Being an equatorial country, Malaysia has uniform temperature throughout the year. The annual variation is less than 2°C except for the east coast areas of Peninsular Malaysia which are often affected by cold surges originating from Siberia during the northeast monsoon. Even there, the annual variation is below 3°C. The daily range of temperature is large, being from 5°C to 10°C at the coastal stations and from 8°C to 12°C at the inland stations but the excessive day temperatures which are found in continental tropical areas are never experienced. It may be noted that air temperature of 38°C has very rarely been recorded in Malaysia. Although the days are frequently hot, the
nights are reasonably cool everywhere.

Relative Humidity
As mentioned earlier, Malaysia has high humidity. The mean
monthly relative humidity falls within 70 to 90%, varying from place to place and from month to month. For any specific area, the range of the mean monthly relative humidity varies from a minimum of 3% (Bindle) to a maximum of about 15% (Loretta). In Peninsular Malaysia, the minimum range is found in Strawn where the mean relative humidity varies from a low 84% in February to a high of only 88% in November. The maximum range is found in the northwest area of the Peninsula (Alor Setar) where the mean relative humidity varies from a low of 72% in February to a high
of 87%. It is observed that in Peninsular Malaysia, the minimum relative humidity is normally found in the months of January and February except for the east coast states of Kelantan and Terengganu which have the minimum in March. The maximum is however generally found in the month of November.

We don't have snow here and the weather might seem a bit like Florida I think...
