Hey!!
I am new to epi's.. I have had Hooker's for about 5 yr's it finally had 1 bloom this yr.. Must have been the threat of being composted...LOL NOW I am hooked.. I haven't seen one I didn't love. But the Pink and Red ones have to be my Fav. If anyone has any extra cuttings or plants I would be interested in them..to purchase, for postage or exchange.. I grow Brugs and Bananas's mostly..
Thanks and Have a Very Blessed Day!
Kylie

HI Kylie and angel_ tree _ baby, it is nice to see you 2 here too. , I like Sandy the nut will have plenty in the spring that I can share. Once you get hooked on these too, you are really hopeless. I tell them they are like pokemon! I gotta have them all....................LOL, Linda
lol @pokemon ! My oldest son still has a binder or two of those old cards somewhere!
Another good thing about epies besides being addicting, is that you can hang them up in baskets etc. so they don't take as much room as the brugs and other addictions!
The one that I have is huge.. and they still have to come in..I may need a bigger house..This could be bad... ;O)
ATB.. Did I tell you I sold the "Heated" GH...LOL
ibartoo I didn't know you were an Epi junkie till I read it over here..LOL
I am in Great company!!!
Kylie
Kylie, I wasn't sure that was you at first and it wasn't until ATB made her alias know as SNJ that I recognized her too. LOL Oh man we got it bad.......... I can't believe you sold the heated greenhouse. I moved all my epies into my aviary! Epies brugs and passies, I don't know whether they are my passions or my downfall. LOL I love them all!
Sandy is an unbelievable enabler too, you think we should get her into brugs?
NO! I have no room for more brugs!!!!! I have 2. Nor am I able to did hole in this stupid soil around here. I am having enough trouble rebuilding my green/shade house-adding on 4 more feet. LOL
Any one want to come have a building party-bring muscles, pvc pipe and FOOD!!!!
Sandy the epi nut
Ps I love burgs! But I love most flowers I also have close to 200 pots of other flowers sitting around.
Thankfully it is raining so I do not have to be out there watering again. But that leaves me time to get on line and buy. LOL Am looking at a couple of things for rooting cuttings in. I have some of those rocks used to grow orchids in comming and there is some rooting gel that I am thinking of buying.
Sandy the epi nut
Sandy I have about a100 more pots to get put in somewhere...LOL Got a freeze coming..
And how in the world can a person have JUST 2 Brugs??? They love living in pots.. thought you might want to know...LOLOLOL
The deal with the "Heated" GH is I bought a 10x12 HF GH last yr on sale.. Welp becoz of new barns and a new wheat field it never got put up.. The joke is it is still in the box and the only heat is the dang dryer vent..LOL I sold it on Craigs list..
Kylie
You sold that harbor freight gh? I was thinking that you should keep that one to grow the epies in and still get another larger one for the brugs LOL!
wren, What's wrong with your soil? Do you have a lot of rocks? All I have is sand, I am suprised anything grows in it, but it does for some reason lol.
Okay what all else do you guys collect lol?
I still have some passies too. I was really into them a few yrs ago, I had to 'thin them out' when I moved.
I have some cactus and succulents. Right now I'm trying to find sea creature/sea plant look-alike-succulents for a special project I'm doing.
I am running out of room in the yard for more pots. If I can get some help redoing the large pots I may get more Brugs. At least here I would not have to put them inside. There are a lot of large ones growing around this side of time.
Wish I had known about your GH. I hope one day to be able to get a real one. But at least with the one I am building I can do it in stages and it can been changed to fit my needs. Same with the benches. I will post pictures of the stages of the first section of the benches. If I do not run out of money-the first section will be four feet long-two or three feet wide have not desided and three shelves high. This section will be across the back when finished and will be at least 10ft long. The side benches will attract to it and be about 4 ft long and will be either 2 shelves high with hanging pipe above or 3 shelves high also. And there will be a shelve in the middle. Lots of room for more epi;s!!!!!!
Sandy the epi nut
I have ROOTS!!!! Water oaks. Plus I have damaged shoulders and back so digging is not a pleasant activity.
I have some of almost everything. LOl. 8 or 10 types of passies, salvias ,hibiscus, and a lot more.
Maybe I should be a PLANT NUT!!!!! LOL
Sandy the epi nut
I'm embarrassed to say how many brugs I have... I did have over 120 diff. kinds last count but some went and of course more came LOL! No telling!
I am not getting any more unless they are something spectacular (yeah right)! I will have thousands of brug seeds in the spring from all these crosses I made this year. I still have tons I need to plant from last yr too, not to mention the ones I bought and adopted from BGI etc. lol. I really don't need anymore bad habits/obsessions unless I can justify them of course hehe.
I have a hodgepodge of other tropicals, a little ginger, palms, vines, hibiscus, bougainvillea, plumeria, bananas, citrus, etc.
At lease the epi take up less room.
Banana's.. have about 35 different ones and of course Passi's.. I did lose most of those when I had to go stay with my sister.. DH tried.. BUT he did better with the Brugs and Banana's..LOL ooo Forgot about the Plummies..got about 20 of those..but that doesn't count coz only one has bloomed so far..hahaha
Kylie
I have kinds of banana's , on is growing in a large pot.
Sandy
I gotta stay away from this bunch--with your huge collections of huge plants! LOL. I live far enough north that I'd have to bring everything inside in the winter, and I don't have room! Doesn't anyone collect small plants? Those that can overwinter indoors easily? Just kidding. I've got a bunch (for me) amaryllis, hoyas and epis going now. I'll be glad when they can go outside for the summer.
Sarah
I also have amaryllis a bunch of them all in the grown. But I am on the border between 8b and 9a.
I am building a green/shade house for my epis out of pvc pipe. Hope the cold weather holds off untill I get it finished.
Sandy
If the brugs didn't like so much water and the epis so little, the epis would be great for underplanting the brugs........... LOL Ok I guess I have to confess too......... 31 varieties of camellias, 15 diff. azaleas, 4 diff. gardenias, 3 birds of paradise, 22 passies, 20-25 cannas and I don't know how many daylilies or iris. I also have about 8 different varieties of hydranges and 6 different varieties of ferns,4 varieties of ginger, 3 varieties of plumeria 8 varieties of lantana and I don't know how many clematis vines.......... So Sandy, don't feel so bad, yours are just concentrated in epis. OOps, I don't know how many brugs either.................... LOL
Poor us I think we have a disease called plantities.
I think you may be right............. but I enjoy it so much, I don't want a cure...........
Me neater. At least with the epi's the price is usual reasonable and the shipping is low.
I keep repeating "I will not buy any plants this month------I will not buy any plats this month---I----will-----not----buy-----this----momth----I don't think it is working!!!!!!!!
Sandy the epi nut
Linda,
How do you grow yours? In a big yard? Greenhouse? That's a lot of plants!!! Don't you have Christmas/Thanksgiving/Easter cactus also?
Sarah
Sarah, I have taken over my own big yard, ( I am almost out of "dirt") so I planted my neighbor's yard ( because he likes flowers too) and My mom's yard because she wants hers to be as pretty as mine. LOL I have my sights set on my brothers yard too, but he doesn't know it yet. As long as they don't start charging me plant rental I'll be ok. In the winter I use my aviary as partially heated gh, I have a cold frame and a screened in porch that gets covered in plastic and is kept just warm enough to keep everything from dying. Then I try to talk my parents in to taking in a few special plants for me. Dad loves to feed plants so he gets to take care of them thru the winter. So far it is working out nicely...... Yes Sarah, I do have the holiday cacti too. I forgot about those. BTW I will be send you those I promised on monday.
Sandy, I told Hubby at the beginning of the month I was officially finished. He laughed and walked out................. I guess he didn't believe me....
You sound like you have a worst case of plantitis that I do. But I am not physically up to all that work any more.
Darn the dog just came and told me it it time for a game. Be back later.
Sandy
Linda I don't believe you...Why would he???hahahahaha
Kylie
Kylie, Am I that transparent? LOL He knows me well, but man, I can't fool anyone any more................ I just hope I can keep up in june and july again. This summer was tough.
