Mastiffs?

I met a fellow with a large dog on lead that he called a mastiff. It clearly wasn't a typical English mastiff, very friendly, had a docked tail, weighed about 150 lbs, fawn in color with a black mask. Actually it looked like a super sized boxer. Bigger than a typical bull mastiff. I suppose is could be a mix of some ilk but does this description sound a bell to anyone?
