Just opened up this morning. It's going to be a fun winter if this keeps up.
Rosamond
Nice colour :-)
And my Daughter agrees!!!
Wonderful color.
Rosamond is a favorite of mine. She is a healthy grower and a good bloomer! Good luck with yours. She's easy to grow and has very few problems.
I had this one a few years ago, but lost it - it is an astounding color and a long bloomer.
I am new to brugs and didn't know there were red ones or is she deep rose? At any rate she is beautiful. Where did you find her?
I've had her for a couple years. I don't even remember who I bought her from. She and Pink Beauty are my very favorites for hardiness and beauty. Love them both. I messed up last winter and almost lost them both so neither of them bloomed all summer long. This is the first bloom I got this year on her. It's going to be an interesting winter to see how they do in my recroom under lights.
I read the thread down below about the recipe for the folier spray and am using that every day and also I've started vacuuming the aphids off of them.
I have a cherub pink that I got last spring as a small rooted plant. She has grown to five ft and has just now Y'd. I didn't think it would ever happen. I understand that now she will have little flower buds coming out. Wouldn't you know it, with winter coming. Timing is everything and hers is off. So I will protect Litlle Miss Gargantuan and see if she will bloom. She's in a pot until spring.
I was also given a couple of pink beuaty cuttings. I look forward to their progress. It's good to hear they are hardy. I will be on the look out for a rosamond.
Texasgrower, that's an extraordinarily dark color for Rosamond. She's more of a medium pink, at least here in Texas. There aren't any true reds in the Brug aurea group. B. sanguinea is a reddish orange, but unfortunately, it doesn't like our hot spring, summer or fall temperatures. It can die almost overnight and won't bloom in temperatures over the mid 70s.
I like Rosamond's shape and color.
Yes, the Rosamond is to big to haul outside to get a better picture and I'm afraid with the lighting available inside it looks darker/redder than it is. It is a very nice bloom though and as bettydee says it has a wonderful shape and color.
When I grew her in Kansas City, she was a very dark reddish-pink.
I always wonder at the difference in color depending on environment. This one is a darkish pink but not what I would call red at all. The only time I've ever noticed a real difference is late fall when it gets colder and they lose so much color they had earlier in the year. A late rebloom is always so odd because they seem so washed out.
Her colours changes here depending on season and temps.
One of my all time favs, too.
I love rosamond. If you even look at her the right way she gets knocked up LOL!
Well, it figures I'd like one that can't tolerate heat. We do have heat. I will just admire her from afar then. She is definately pretty whether she is red or not. I kinda thought she was a deep pink. Thanks for the heads up Betty.
She grows fine here in the heat of south florida. Her biggest and best flushes are in the winter when the nights are cooler. Like many brugs the flowers will show wilt when it's in direct hot sun and perk up again when the sun sets. Don't let any one tell you this one does not do well in the heat. She grows like a weed all summer and blooms her head off all winter.
There ya go Xeri, getting my hopes up again. I used to live in southwest Fl along the coast. It gets very hot and humid. I have plenty of shaded and semi shaded places here to put her. Lots of water for all my sun loving plants when it's over 100 here. I have found that even my sun lovers don't like the sun in temps like that. Ok, maybe I'll keep an eye out for one afterall. :-)
Let me go look for her in the plant files. Must study up on her. Thanks
ok, the plant files say hardiness zone 11. Successfully grown in Ca. and Ohio. The pics have her from orange to light pink. I am new to brugs and I have noticed there are many variations of color of the same plant. That's ok, I like variations. Also, the flower will change color as it ages. I have roses that do that.
oh that is pretty.
Texasgrower, I was speaking of B. sanguinea when I said she doesn't like hot weather.

Betty, I went to the link. Wow what color. People have had success growing this one in Ca., Fl. Ore. and Al. I guess it just goes to show you that they are hardier than you think. Or maybe it's the soil or light or combo there of. I'm willing to give it a try.
