Help me identify

Canyon Lake, TX(Zone 8b)

I have a miniature African Violet that blooms green and white double or triple. The mother plant (gone now) was purchased from a grower in Boerne, Tx about ten years ago. It is a heavy bloomer and very easy to prop. from leaves.

I have forgotten its name. Can anyone help me name this one?

Thanks

ps....I don't know how to load pics, else, I would post one.

There are over 10,000 registered and even more just "named" African Violets... It's nearly impossible to ID them once the name is lost... Even if you "narrow it down" there's just SO many that are similar.. :(

Oh my! Your description fits so many AV's! Really need a pic for any attempt to ID. If you go to the AVSA site, they have hundreds of AV photos with names. It is a good resource. http://www.avsa.org/Photographs.asp

With a little more research and Googling "African violets with green blossoms", I realize the plant I have is IRISH FLIRT (Sorano) 7577

Thanks for the AVSA site.

Glad you found it and it is a very pretty flower... I have one coming next week..

Oooh, I love the "Irish" AV's! Irish Flirt is a beauty! Check out these photo's: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=images+of+african+violet+irish+flirt&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title

I wish I had gotten into AV's when my Mom was still here, I would have tried to own every "Irish" named AV I could find ... she would have loved it! She was so proud of her Irish heritage!

Texasrockgarden: I am not real good at explaining things but if I can learn to upload pictures anybody can! I am so technically challenged, but was able to learn it right away.

Do you have a file on your computer where you keep your photo's? You can practice. I just click on the "Choose File" icon at the bottom of this screen. It brings up my pictures that I have stored on my computer and I just look through them and find the one I want and I click on it and then click on "choose" and it adds it to my post. When you click send it will just be a little picture but enlarges when we click on it here to see it.

I have a Macintosh Computer so I know it is different with PC's but just play around and practice and see what happens ... that's how I did it! You can play right here on this thread and see if you can get it to work.

I just found this explaining how to add a picture here on DG. It probably explains it better than I can:

In the 90s I tried growing AVs and this is the only one that liked my methods and location (E/SE facing window). An AV purist will scold me for the condition this plant is in. Obviously, I don't grow it for show, but for my own enjoyment and personal satisfaction.

This plant is about ten years old or older. It is about time I start new plants from some of its leaves. It is in a 4" pot that I bottom feed by lifting the pot out of its tray or saucer and adding the solution to the tray. There is hardly any growing medium left in the pot as most of it has worked its way out the bottom of the pot over the years. I feed it when it wilts or the leaves start to get soft. Room temp never gets below 55 or above 80, usually between 65 and 75.

That is a great picture, texasrockgarden! Looks like there may be a sucker or two in there . . .

I just noticed where you live! It's not really that far from San Antonio! If you want help repotting, just let me know!

Looks like a pretty happy Irish Flirt to me! (yes--I know it's sukered) I have a noid mini like that. I periodically split and repot it--A lot of friends have benefited from that plant! And Texas rock garden---you are welcome. I love the AVSA sight, but sometimes I visit too often and then I must go to violet rehab! ^_^

What a pretty plant ... if it's been looking that good for ten years or more, I wouldn't change a thing!

You have a happy Irish Flirt, phoebe!

GoldLeaf: That is adorable! My Mom LOVED being part Irish! My mom's maiden name was O'Farrell, but they dropped the O' somewhere along the way and it became Farrell. Mom's grandparents, (my great grandparents) were from County Cork, Ireland. I always wear green on St. Patty's day, in honor of my Irish heritage and to please my Mom!

I think you plant is precious in bloom! Speaking of being Irish. There is a county in Ireland by the name of Mayo. All these generations we thought we were Irish. So my 67 year old brother and his wife traveled all the way to Ireland to keep the family history going. When they got there he found out we are Scottish.......it broke his heart (LOL)

I had an uncle whose family was from County Mayo, Ireland.

Who knows? Maybe we are Irish...............we always thought we were and thought our ancestors came from England...............but were Irish

I love your Irish Flirt... I kept telling Roxanne at the show I had to get this certain plant that was variegated and I kept forgetting it until I said there it is and she said Sue that is not variegated it is green and you already got it from Cape Cod... Duh me... It is so pretty, I can't wait until mine get big enough to bloom..... It was very nice to meet you Goldleaf..
Hugs,
Susan
