MAAVS 2008 - Anyone going?

Looks like I am going... Didn't think I was gonna be able to, but am shuffling some stuff around so I can--YE-HAW!
This is the last "hurrah" of the year, so I think it'll be worth the long trip from Maine.

Well you know Syrumani, I am always after those micros myself so it would be no problem looking for you too heehee!!
And if I don't find any, will let you know when I get some of my leaves to take... I have lost quite a few 'cos they're just so tiny they rot fast--But I have recently been having some better luck keeping them going, so let's cross our fingers that one day you'll have a package coming yer way from my success :-)

Oh, how lucky you are to be able to go to that show! I have never been to an AV show and hope someday that I get to attend one!

Actually that reminds me, I ought to take pictures that I took last weekend at the Tri-State show in Morristown, New Jersey huh?? LOL I am such a space-case sometimes.

Oh, how wonderful that y'all can get together at such a great event! Is the MAAVS show held in the same area every year? If air fare weren't so astronomical right now I'd consider hopping on a plane and go with you! I know you will have a blast! And, I can't wait to see pictures!

Plantlady--MAAVS is in a different place on the East Coast each year... This is my first time going to MAAVS.

I *DID* go to AVSA National Convention in Tulsa, Oklahoma this past May tho... THAT is "the biggie", and is held at a different location in the USA every year. 2009 will be in Reno, and I am going WHOO!!!

I'll be there for a while on Saturday. My aunt wanted me to go with her, so I'm going up to visit my Dad in Maryland for a week and we'll drive over on Sat. She doesn't really grow too many plants of any kind, but she wants to get some african violets and I told her this is a good place to get them, ha....she has no idea...

I think the Reno AVSA Convention is 2009........Raleigh NC is 2010. I know 'cause MAAVS and my club are hosting it there.

Wow! It sounds like a lot of us are going to be at MAAVS this year. We need to wear our DG id on our name tags so we'll know each other. LOL

The first two don't work for me, all I get is a bunch of garbled print but the third one works on my computer and I have printed them out a few times. I have given them to a couple of folks at garden centers when I've had my DG T-Shirt on and they've asked me about it!

I keep checking DG all day............knowing full well that whoever went will be exhausted and too tired to be posting pics! Those sales are like women at a Neiman Marcus last chance call!!!!!!!!!! I know! It was like I was scrambling as fast as i could from table to table just grabbing what I wanted. You sure don't want to give a wish list to someone going to a sale as great as this one is going to be............I called LL to see why I hadn't gotten my order this week...........They told me they were too busy getting ready for the Maav convention.

We have few vendors at our state sales......There is a rule about out of state vendors coming and that is why I don't go to our state conventions. It is the same 5 vendors. Now you could give your want list at our state convention.......and probably find it.

In Wichita?????????????? I can't believe it. They must have changed the rules! Bummer but it would have been a 10 hour drive for me.........too long........too hard...........

Who usually is at the state sales, Gail? Who's David? And, did you go to Wichita, Jim? Was there really not alot of people there?

You've just got to come up to Kerrville for at least a day next year, Gail! You could go see the grandkids for the day, then leave for Kerrville first thing in the morning . . . then drive home from Kerrville later that day? Or, go to Kerrville first, THEN go see the grandkids!

I am going to Kerrville this year. It is so close to my children's house. I just want to be there the whole time as people really buy ahead of time........if they are attending the meetings. It is not right or fair but they do it. (I won't go to any meetings......lol)
I will just be there when the sales room opens......I think on Friday about 11 in the morning......

Last year there were only five vendors. There was Ken, the guy from San Antonio, Jo's violets and she is a sweetheart (she had giant big avs..........don't know if she brought the little ones.........sure she did) and a lady from Oklahoma who had the best selection for me. She had species avs and streps, miniature streps and all kinds of things. I was in such a hassle, I forgot to pay for my box from her and left it!

I didn't see anyone else but I do remember a table where I didn't know who the vendor was..........so that makes 6. David (from Dave'sViolets) wasn't there because Missouri is a long way from Kerrville. I think that is why we can't get the big vendors.

Ken orders a whole lot from Lyndon Lyons so I bought a lot of his streps and avs.........straight from LL.

I agree..........no one grows better sinningias than Dave! I wish he would come........to Kerrville but I can't imagine that trip for him with plants.

So many of the big vendors are in northeast part of our nation or in the middle..........which is still too far.........

hey Gail-- I am going to be going to Davids house in a couple weeks:) He sells out of his house in springfield-- I have been there before, several years ago-- and plan on making an appt to drop by when I go to visit DD--looking for anything?
