It is in water, about 1.5 to 2 inches of water.

How long is the cutting? Are you changing the water every one to two days? And try putting a capful of Hydrogen peroxide in the water.

yes, I am changing the water, probably every 2-3 days and no hydrogen peroxide. The cutting is about 6 inches long. And how is having peroxide in water affect the top part of the cutting? The top part of the cutting that is turning brown is not in water. Also, I use tap water that's been sitting out for a few days.

I would say 2 inches (bottom) in water is green with roots, 2 inches not in water, green no root and 2 inches (on top) not in water brown, soft, no root. Water is fine, not cloudy, does not smell.

I will take photo in a few minute and upload.

i had a cutting like that once and I let it be. When it had roots I planted it and it started growing. The wrinkly/dried up stuff eventually fell off on its own.

Yes, they do at times, die back to the next node, then continue on.

Fantastic! Thanks for the advice.

I would cut away the damaged part and dip in peroxide. As Teresa said, it will likely doe back to the next node. If that node is a long way down the cutting get that brown stuff off.
