my michilia is trying to die

Dahlonega, GA

All of a sudden ,in about two days , my alba is trying to die . I had put MG (weak) on my tropicals , but may have burned this . Don't know if this is damage from MG or something else. I have flushed it today and this has been going on for about five days . It was so beautiful and healthy , just look at the new growth it had . I've already removed six or seven leaves . please, if you have any clue , let me know . sally

Oh, cass, I hope so . I've been so careful of this baby, I told dh from the start, this plant was the most important of all my plants , even more than a coupla mangos I sprouted . thank you for the hope , sally

I'm assuming you've got somewhere warm to keep it for the winter?

Oh yes , ecrane3,we,ve talked before , I transport the tropicals to my place in Texas for the winter, and what I don't set out , I bring back for the summer to grow a little more. With your exellent advice before ,I got this little darlin' in peak condition , until this setback. I'm just lost as what to do , it has new leaf growth on the ends , except one new leaf is damaged , and that tip may die. If it doesn't go any further , it will hopefully get thicker . I almost had a heart attack in the spring , we were gone for a few hours and when we got home, the wind had gotton up and knocked it off the railing on the porch .the tip top had broken off , but it put out along the main stem and extra branches . I always value your time and wonderful advice, knowing as much as you help , you can't remember everyone you help, just very thankful you are there for me and all the dg ers that need you . thanks again , sally

I figured you had plans to keep it warm, but since you mentioned how much it meant to you I figured it wouldn't hurt to doublecheck! Glad to hear it's got somewhere warm to go.

Well, I guess I loved it too much . My beauty made it till late January ,then slipped away in the nite. Removing it from the soil to give it an autopsy and a proper burial ,it was evident that I was looking at a homicide. I confess, I'm the culprit. Either over fertilized or over watered. Roots were rotted . Learn from me . A sad Digger

Sorry to hear that! I think we've all been guilty of killing something with too much love so you're definitely not alone! (If the roots were rotted it was most likely too much water vs too much fertilizer...particularly if you didn't fertilize any more between your original post and when it passed away in January I think watering is a more likely culprit)

I really think so too . I started flushing it pretty heavy that first week after the leaves started burning and thought that was from too much fertilizer , but it may have been too little water. It did get a little dry for a day or two . Who knows now, I don't think I'll be trying another. Just too iffy . digger
