CLOSED: beautiful blue color

San Antonio, TX

I live outside of San Antonio (zone 8b) and had this bird in my front yard the other day. I tried to get a picture of front, but of course, he turned his head every time. I hope someone can help! Thank you!

Probably a Western Scrub-Jay.
There's a similar Mexican Jay that doesn't have the black cheek and dark patch on the back visible on your bird. And it doesn't occur near San Antonio.

Again, you are great! Thank you so much. Absolutely this bird is a western-scrub jay. I saw the front of him, I just couldn't get it on film. Thank you!

You're welcome! I have a very hard time getting decent bird pictures on a regular basis, but once in a while I get lucky. At least this pic was good enough to ID the bird.

Ditto to Western Scrub Jay.
