I live outside of San Antonio (zone 8b) and had this bird in my front yard the other day. I tried to get a picture of front, but of course, he turned his head every time. I hope someone can help! Thank you!

Probably a Western Scrub-Jay.
There's a similar Mexican Jay that doesn't have the black cheek and dark patch on the back visible on your bird. And it doesn't occur near San Antonio.

You're welcome! I have a very hard time getting decent bird pictures on a regular basis, but once in a while I get lucky. At least this pic was good enough to ID the bird.
