Look What I've Got !

My Diamonds have a itty bitty egg it's about the size of a small jelly bean and i'm so excited!
I have been watching them do their mateing ritual all week and waiting for a result and this afternoon i came in and she was on the nest.
She had been on there yesterday and today but when i went to turn off their light there it was.
I guess she will lay another sunday and then it's 14 days and there will be babys and YES i will have pics!!!

Look how tiny it is i can only imagine how small the baby is going to be ^_^

awesome congrats!!! mike says u need to send those eggs on over to us and if u really want will even allow ya visitation rights, rotfl. diamonds is what he wants not pigeons so i don't got to share my babies with him,lol. what a tiny egg so happy for u and auntie silkie can't wait for pics!!!

Thanks Grow & Silkie i really wasn't expecting and egg so soon but they had paired up and started fighting so i moved the other pair to a different cage.
I put nest in there in hopes they would mate and early this week they started and she had been in and out of the nest for the last 2 days. BTW the mateing is really something to watch it's not like any bird i've ever seen.
So i left to go to town this afternoon and got back and i have them a light we live in the woods and it's not that bright in the corner i have them in. But i went to turn off the light and she was on the nest and she back up a little and there this tiny egg was.
I guess she will lay another on sunday then really start setting and i'm super nervous about all this.
There will be pics i can't wait to brag about this and then again when i think how tiny i get nervous all over again!!

I do however think the other pair the female maybe mentally ill she doesn't fly down to eat she jumps head first.

Yes Silkie and if my searching is correct i got them Oct 18th and i wasn't expecting them to lay so soon.
It's so tiny and yes like a button quail egg and it looks so delicate i'm limiting visit's to the cage and everybody has been told "stay away".

FYI Diamonds are very quiet and make very little sound they are the calmest birds i have ever owned^_^

wow that is smaller than my tiel eggs,lol. i'd be guarding that baby!! i have never heard a diamond before. haha nothen can be as noise as my tiels except a parrot.

I've had cage birds and they were all noisey but these coo real soft and only move around when eating or just stretching their wings.
I was told they were too nervous and flighty thats why i haven't had them had a nervous parakeet and didn't want that again.
But nothing could be further from the truth they are calm and don't throw thier food or poop like my finches did.
Soon as it warms up in the spring i'm going to put them in a bigger flight pen so they can fly around a bit.
I was on the pigeon site and looked at a comment about doves and hatching a man said if poop touches the egg their dead. Well i can't stop mine from pooping in the nest and they hatch eggs like rabbits haveing babys. I know i have to change the nest material at least 5 times before they ever leave the nest. Pigeons have no sense of cleanliness at all mine poop on everthing from the water to the grit dish now i know why people complain about them LOL

lol, yep they have initiated me already. the way we built their pens they don't poop all over and the pine bedding absorbs it and rolls to the bottom once it dries or clumps for easy removal. i didn't know what to use for a nest since they r so big so i used 8qt fruit baskets. the bowls r toward front and on perch they poop between everything. in the nest the poop dries quick to take out or rolls to bottom. we knew they would be messy so we built their cage mostly of osb with wire front. i'll see if i can get a lighted pic for ya to show ya on my cell. only prob i got is poop when i hold them.

You have been inducted into the poopy world of pigeons not trying to be gross but i never knew a bird could hold and expel so much LOL



Heres one of my nest boxs i'm going to remove the wood bottoms and replace with hardware cloth to help keep it dry they can poop it full and if i'm not there to change the straw the babys get wet and stinky.

oh i know, the one boy keeps getting me,lol. well i found out they make things called flightsuits for them. they r like a diaper with changable pads. u can put them in them so when they fly around inside to excersise so they r not pooping all over ur furniture and such. then before u recage them u take it off them, they r expensive but if i can find a good pic i can make them from i can use it for a pattern. that will help me with my outside the cage prob cause i hold them alot,lol. i'm doing a few cell pics to show u how i did mine.

All mine are outside i don't think i would like haveing them inside they are way to messy for me.

Pigeons can survive any type of cold weather all the breeders i know breed in the winter months and they are in outdoor flight's
Pigeons aren't delicate like people percieve them to be they can survive on their own very well if they escape or get lost.
My doves are just as tuff they spend the whole winter in a huge pen with only wind break cloth and they do just fine.

Guess WHAT I got tonight, I fell in love, the most pretties doves I have ever ever seen in my life, ring neck doves. you really do NOT want to see how they were caged, it was a homemade wire cage just wrapped around them. They are in a 10X larger cage now but will get them a real cage tomorrow. In case it does not say, what kind of feed do I need to get for them at Walmart, no feed store will be open tomorrow. I do have sunflower seeds (in the shell) millo, crimped oats, cracked corn. I will take pics of them tomorrow they are quite stressed. They are so pretty.

The wire cage they came in was wrapped around them. It was made out of chicken wire. I was so disgusted. I also got a pair of Astrolops, HE IS HUGE, 3 Standard cochin roos, 2 mixed roo's I am already ROO poor but just couldnt turn these down, all for 40 bucks. It was a good day and I feel good.

Luvs if your walmart carries it the gourmet mix is perfect but a little pricey.

Poor doves you must have bought them at and auction they do that to them here at auction too.
Not takeing up for them but it's really not harmful unless they have been in there for more than a day.
You have a very good pet there luvs and don't be afraid of them their not as delicate as they look.

Somehow i have the feeling i started something when i joined this forum when i came here there was only chicken folks.

I do know I would not have even looked twice at them If I had not known you thru here. And seen your birds. They have dark eyes and they just look at me. i have not heard a sound out of them yet. I will probably go to pets mart, Just like the craft department the pet department is not what it use to be at wally world.

Well she laid egg #2 this afternoon and got my fingers crossed and so nervous they should hatch in 13 days and i will be a nervous wreck till then^_^

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS they do the boy (I assume) has a jagged tail???? Their name is Hansel and Gretel. They are so sweet.

If they look like the first picture then they are Wild Color and they should have a tail just like in the picture. How do you know their sex do they coo or were you told they were a pair?

colors are a bit more brown on yours, mine are a pinkish tan color. Salmon? I was told they were a pair and the one I think is the boy has a longer tail and it is kinda jagged. Like a hand saw. I did hear one coo this morning, actually I could not figure out what was making that sound.

She is actually a grey color when it flashed it made her look brown {(photography go figure)}

The male will coo loudly and the female has a softer quiet coo or a soft kind of razzly sound.

I got more ring necks tonight and pigeons. They are just beautiful, they are a bit stressed right now and going to sleep, once I get them in their new cages tomorrow I will take pictures. I did get them the gourmet feed today and they loved it.

I fed and watered every one of the new ones and them covered them up and turned on the heat in the living room.

Candled my Diamonds eggs this morning and 1 is fertile but sadly the other was not so looks like i may have one little baby.
They have been sitting tight on the nest and at times they both sit at the same time they are just so cute.

hey it happens, don't feel bad. happy dance!!! u still got one so chin up girl, ur gonna be a momma soon!!!! come on little one grow, grow, grow, we can't wait to meet u!!!!

Well they have been mateing since sunday and sorting out their nest.
Sorry no pics this time and if by chance they lay and hatch i will get a pic when they get older but i will keep yall posted.
