Help! What soil mix?

Montgomery, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm new to epis and would like to do this right. What soilmix is the best for epis?

I think we each have I own ideas and hopefully the others will come along and let us know.

In the heat down here I have the problem of the pots drying out to fast so I use a mix of compost, and potting mix and cacuts mix. In the past I have used just plan dirt and the epi oxy grow and bloomed.

I don't know a lot about Epi's and only have one large one a friend gave me many years ago and a few small plants grown from cuttings I received in trades. I use plastic pots because I tend to break the terra cotta/clay type.

My mix consists of Miracle Grow Potting Soil, lots of Perlite and lots of Orchid Bark ... all mixed together in a plastic tub. This mix is fast draining and does not hold a lot of moisture which works for me. My plants stay outside year round and I use this mix for everything, not just Epi's.

I am using Miracle grow potting soil with lots of perlite and sand mixed in. Mine seem to love it. My plants are outside from March till November maybe a little longer. They love the beer fertilizer recipe listed under the recipe on the brug forum too. Only during the growing season though. Hope this is helpful. linda

I am just getting started as well. After researching several web sites and talking to my grandmother (who has been growing them for 50 yrs) I used a mix of potting soil, perlite, orchid mix for phalanopsis (it has smaller chips), and a little sand . I also threw in a little bit of bone meal into each pot and mixed it in good.

Send me some of the Catfish and I will tell ya...hehehehe

I only have one big one.. but I have started some cuttings I got in a trade in plain MG.. They are doing fine just don't over water. If you think it needs to be watered ..wait a week then water..
