Brown Bovine Chicken?

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Has anyone ever heard of a brown bovine chicken? I've never run across that type in my chicken reading, and when I googled nothing came up.

Clarkson, KY

Never. Sorry -I saw all the views and thought I would tell you why I wasn't posting- lol. Good Luck!

No, but there is a Bovan Brown--which is, I think, a British hybrid.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Never heard of it... Did you hear it or read it? If you heard it, maby it was pronounced wrong and it's something else?

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

We crossed cat.. :)

Up with the chickens, ZZ!

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

A brown bovine chicken sounds like a bull, only a sissy one.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

That is tooooo funny! I knew that was perfect comedy content.. Just didn't go there yet.. Not enough coffee ups yet..

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Well, I'm in an earlier time zone. Some say a different zone altogether...

(Zone 7b)

Never heard of it sorry

The Bovan Brown is a Gold Sex-linked--which see:

Aaah the Queen of the Links!!! I knew she'd have one. Ha!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Hey! That's what those two "Delawares" I have remind me of...

Lodi, United States

I think you are right ZZ--I think they may be sex-linked--except that would mean they are both pullets--cause a roo golden/red sex-linked chick would be white. But that might be why the breeder told you he KNEW they were pullets.

Clarkson, KY

Funky -the Bovan seems to refer to sex linkage. However: urban dictionary says>
1. Bovan
A kick ass family that came from Canada. They are actually French Canadian, true definition is Whine Drinker.

Lodi, United States

Ah! ZZ, they found you!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL LOL

Just as long as you lay eggs it won't bother ME!!lolol

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

You all are too much!!!

I'm looking to add two more chickens to the four I have now and found an add on Craig's List for
"one year old organic brown egg layers $5.00/each." I wrote and asked what kind and he said brown bovine. I'm sure it was just a misprint. I'll let you know when I hear back from him.

Thanks for the help and entertainment!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL It was fun.. :)

Sounds like a deal to me!

Clarkson, KY

I'd take it any day.

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

They sound like a deal to me too, but after talking with DH we may wait until spring to add to the flock. I would want to quarentine them for a couple of weeks and we don't have a place ready to do that right now. We could certainly build a temporary house, but are pretty busy trying to button the place up for the animals we already have at this time. I don't think we should take on another project before winter.

Clarkson, KY

Awww. I was getting excited to see real bovine chickens!!!

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

If we change our minds, you'll be the first to know. ☺

Lodi, United States

Wouldn't six chickens keep themselves warmer than four?:0)

(Zone 7b)

Hey i got a question what doe's a Plymouth rock chicken look like i had a friend call me and say he had me a hen and a roo for free.

Merrimac, WI(Zone 4b)

Most definitely, Catscan! ☺

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Sounds like my chicks from Delaware! LOL

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Definitely came in on this one late, but had to get my crack in. I was picturing a flying bovine cow.

Glad to see someone had some useful information for jasmerr, though!

Clarkson, KY

Mostly like this. My meaty layers -used for sex-linked crosses and great all-around birds. May also be white and ? other color.

Clarkson, KY

I really like mine. Great utility birds and really fun to see what hatches if you cross w/ something. Dying to get a JG Blue Roo and cross that!!

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

Clarkson, KY
